| 754943 | 2009-03-08 09:20:00 | Its highly unlikely its a hardware fault, as works fine on a live cd/ubcd4win etc. So reinstall is the only option here? |

| 754944 | 2009-03-08 09:25:00 | This is Vista, there is no recovery console. I assume you mean the vista recovery disc. And does chkdsk /p even exist?:p It is a laptop. How do you suppose I remove it without voiding the warranty? Well if there is a warranty then take it to the company that actually supplied the laptop. I can sit here and assume anything I like. Just take all the advice you are given for free. Why not install a Linux based O/S. There are switches for checkdisk, scandisk and even for installing operating systems. How do you remove what? |

How do you suppose I remove it without voiding the warranty? The Vista Recovery DVD/CD has command prompt available You never mentioned it was a Laptop, only said its Vista and I have already slaved the drive and scanned if for malware etc Not damn mind readers you know ;) YET chkdsk has many commands / Switches chkdsk /p /p= Check even if the drive is not flagged dirty, bad. But may or may not run from the CD, just checked and chkdsk /f did Sweep - if its only damaged software - the warranty wont cover it. Warranties ONLY cover hardware. Manufactures simply say - reinstall windows from fresh from the factory recovery disc's or partition - if it still plays up then they will look at the hardware. |

| 754951 | 2009-03-09 07:07:00 | I did a chkdsk /f /r on the drive, but that didn't change anything chkdsk /p wouldn't run in the vrc. Will it work in UBCD4Win? |
