755566 2009-03-11 21:52:00 So after taking that ping script somebody here directed me too, and chucking it on my families PC's, my fathers laptop (Vista) is the only one that complains.
The rest of the family is on XP, however I dont think thats the issue.

In a nutshell, when you run the ping command, about 50% of the time it runs the pings successfully, shows you the ping stats, but then fails to exit. It just sits there.

Then I noticed the same thing happening with browsing...
Fire up Firefox, goto Google, it comes up. Search for something, and it just sits there doing nothing .... .... .... Times out after about 60 - 90 seconds then try again and it works.

Couldnt see anything sus running on the laptop, and he does very limited browsing on it (Mostly to TradeMe and his own website I believe).

Whats likely to be causing it? My initial thoughts are that when the internet next "pauses" that he fires up IE quickly and tries to go to the same website.

My next thought is that it could possibly be NetNanny playing up?
Im wondering if its NetNanny 'scanning the page', because when it pauses, DNS has already resolved and it says "transferring from google.co.nz" sorta thing after its already done the "looking up google.co.nz". So I doubt its DNS thats messing up ...

Any other ideas?

Thanks
