573148 2007-07-27 04:43:00 I have an urgent need to find a number I called, or a number that texted me. I have discovered that a computer I sold some time before the 13th of June (I don't have the exact date) contained vital data before I installed Windows and sold the PC. I believe there's about a 50/50 chance of recovery - if I can find the computer.

I won't go into details on what the data is, but I need to make every possible effort to retrieve it.

Before anyone accuses me of not keeping good business records, this sale was not business related, and the guy just came and gave me cash for it.

The only way I can trace this is by getting his cellphone number, which he texted me from. On the night I sold him the computer he texted me, saying "da computer is f**ked" (nothing important, he just plugged the screen into the onboard VGA port instead of his video card, causing him to see nothing).

I then called him (most likely on the same number) from our landline to sort it out.

These are the only two communications I remember between us.

I called Telecom, and the investigations team at first claimed that the records of phone numbers and texts I have called/sent/received are deleted after seven days and that it was impossible to get the information I wanted.

Minutes later she told me that for $40 per day to check, and with an affadavit proving that the phone was mine, I could get the information. For the range that I know the call was made inside, I'd be looking at over $1000.

I was very annoyed with her (having just changed her story) and asked to speak to a manager, but she wouldn't let me, claiming that there was no manager, "and he'd tell you the exact same thing anyway".

I need to speak to somebody in a position to give me the information, which I have been told by another staff member (not in the investigations dept) is easily accessible by them but they can't give it out.

Does anyone have any tips?

All I want is a list of numbers that texted me within a certain date range (May 24th - June 12th or so).

573149 2007-07-27 04:53:00 If you called from a landline, surely the cell number is recorded on your monthly statement. I am pretty certain it is on ours! SolMiester (139)

Doesn't that mean $40 a day as in how many days it takes them to check?

And I would imagine theres some stupid privacy rule that says you shouldn't get this.

I'd move it up to a manager. Get a manager on line before telling them what you want to know, rather than wade through the story with each level.

573151 2007-07-27 05:46:00 Only $40 a day? Most would charge $80 an hour. ;) Graham L (2)
573152 2007-07-27 05:56:00 If you use Telecom for tolls, you should see the number listed on your phone bill. somebody (208)
573153 2007-07-27 06:11:00 The $40 a day isn't per day it takes them to work it out. It's $40 for each day that I want the listing of.

I'd better hope it was the guy's cellphone I called, because if so, as you've said, it will be on the bill.

Thanks

573154 2007-07-27 07:11:00 If you sign up for my telecom (or whatever it is called) you can see your bill
online. which if you called a cellphone should be listed or a toll call.
A local call would be a problem.
So what was on the hard drives then:D Something that what make you

573155 2007-07-27 08:17:00 If you called him from your local landline, then you won't find the no. on your statement. Just asking but have you tried to trace this guy using the physical/online white pages or calling directory assistance?

BTW, what IS on that HDD?

573156 2007-07-27 09:35:00 As stated before - if you made a call to his mobile then the number would appear on your statement. Send all your bills to me and I will check it for $20 per day ;)

BTW - don't you think that maybe you are treading on thin ice stating this sort of thing online - ird people are everywhere....everywhere!

Read it properly.

He said he wants a list of numbers that texted him. Not numbers he called.
