573099 2007-07-27 02:02:00 Is it possible to re-programme the Sat Nav system installed in a Japanese imported car to allow it to work in New Zealand? Cheers Marshman Marshman (7857)
573100 2007-07-27 04:15:00 It might not even be GPS. If so, you would have to get the Japanese satellite "adjusted" to transmit to NZ.

If it's GPS, it probably has a proprietary map format, and unavailable (Japanese) documentation. It would be an "interesting" challenge. I'd scrap it. ;)

573101 2007-07-27 05:15:00 I have been told by a car dealer (who are always to be believed) when I was looking at buying an import recently that they can be upgraded for NZ... at a cost of around $1,000.00. No idea who does it though. Shortcircuit (1666)
573102 2007-07-27 05:44:00 So scrap it, and spend about that on a new one, with support and a guarantee. ;) Graham L (2)

573104 2007-07-27 21:01:00 My friend's new car has one of those (Jap import). It is constantly telling him that he's 9800km away from where he's supposed to be. somebody (208)
573105 2007-07-28 07:04:00 a workmate at my old job had a gps but it only showed a japanese map, so it was kinda interesting watching us drive across jap farmland while in auckland.

it had a tv function too, but NZ laws/regulations meant it got all ripped out/disabled when it was imported. apparently they would have pulled the whole thing out if it wasn't the only way to control the AC and suspension settings/sports modes etc
