It depends on whether you would like to get back or not. What is the return fare?

572800 2007-07-26 02:45:00 its about $40 in fuel round trip. however add in runnng costs then its a lot more. also flying is a lot quicker.

i think tv3? did a thing on about cost of travel. by plane was the cheapest and trains the dearest. typical, the most fuel hungry way to travel is also the cheapest :(

572801 2007-07-26 03:04:00 These fares are not what the seat normally costs. They are to fill unbooked seats. The plane is going. It doesn't use "much" fuel for each extra passenger, so they can scavenge a few more dollars. If they manage to sell a few more full-price tickets before the flight leaves, guess who gets bumped. ;)

" What you need to know: These fares are only available online for one day only or until sold out. Seats are strictly limited - see the online 'counter' for the number of seats left. Travel periods are strictly limited and fares may not be available on all flights or days during stated travel period. Flight restrictions and routing restrictions apply. Prices are per person, child discounts do not apply. General terms and conditions and Smart Saver terms and conditions apply"

Exactly . They will put you on to the next available flight, which might be several hours later, if you are lucky .

We got a phone call from Qantas the day before flying up to Rotorua asking if we would like to go at an earlier time instead, or perhaps the next day because they "needed to lighten the plane" due to "bad weather" . I strongly suspected that they had overbooked as the plane was full . . .

Maybe not domestic but international definitely.
They always hope for some people to not turn up on the day or cancel at the last minute.

572804 2007-07-26 04:57:00 I think it is - they are just covering themselves, trying to create a greater profit, and on the odd occasion when everybody turns up, they, and the passengers are screwed. wratterus (105)
