572597 2007-07-28 04:03:00 Hi there never-u-mind, a great thread to read as I have my son's 14th coming up in a month. Similar position to you, as in he has most things (and no pctek, that doesn't mean he has been spoilt, he's a great kid, does exceptionally well at school, and is sensible and thinks of others) and it's a little hard to choose this year. He would love a Wii, but he will have to save up for that himself. He did paintball for the first time a while back and absolutely loved it. We have opened a savings account for him with Fisher Fledgling Fund ( a sharemarket fund for the young investor, he gets a regular newsletter, etc which he enjoys www.fisherfunds.co.nz you can open a Kiwisaver account for him through them - they make it very easy on their web site and he can claim his $1000 to start working for him now) and any birthday/Xmas money he gets he decides whether to invest it or spend it. Am thinking of maybe a good desktop publishing/graphics programme (which I can then use!!). Your son may have most of what he already wants, but hey, you're thinking and asking opinions, so I reckon whatever you decide on will be the right thing. Best of luck. Grimy (3041)

572599 2007-07-28 04:38:00 I see camcorder has been mentioned. Any of his favorite bands coming to town. The Police are coming in Jan, that will be a good one.
Might I recommend one of those postshop prepaid visa cards.

They are good for online purchases, but at present TM does not accept them.

572603 2007-07-28 09:40:00 If he does get hooked on animation & blender is a bit complicated, try this anim8tor (www.anim8or.com)

It's tiny but surprisingly useful. Site has tutorials etc. Worth a look.

That lego thing also seems interesting.........

Thanks Grimy . My definition of a spoilt child is . . . . one who demands regardless of their behavior . . . . . one who is allowed to say and do anything without consequences . . . . one who when given something of value treats it with no regard etc . . . . I do not think that a child who is respectful, dutiful and demands nothing is considered spoilt . :p

We are definitely getting closer to a birthday resolution of sorts .

Thanks heaps for all your suggestions, I'm going to take them all and see if theres anything there that shouts out to him, otherwise I might just settle with some clothes and shoes etc .

As for the pre paid visa . . . . wespac have a debit card of sorts, use it like a credit card or something, he would love to have one of them and he is a very sensible boy so I'm going to give it some thought . :D Would hate to think what he would end up buying on line . :illogical
