756315 2009-03-15 02:21:00 After some research on the web, it seems that it could be related to the GRUB bootloader from ubuntu.

Try downloading dban, then select the "erase" option.

Then try installing.

756316 2009-03-15 09:24:00 I'm about to try my hdd in another laptop, to see if that will help. I'll post back on here once I'm done.

That dban program will fully wipe my hdd won't it? I would still like to keep my ubuntu partition intact if possible.

756317 2009-03-15 09:43:00 Ok so I put my hdd into another working laptop (one that does boot from cd) and I get the same problem as in my laptop. So the fault is in the hdd (you were right :) ), but not sure if its with the hdd itself or if grub has somehow caused this.

This other laptop also has ubuntu and grub and it boots fine though.

756318 2009-03-15 10:52:00 Well I'm all out of ideas, apart from deleting all the partitions and starting again...

I did a 'fixmbr' and removed the grub loader so the computer boots straight into windows. That still doesn't help me boot from the windows cd.

silly computer!!!
