573488 2007-07-29 04:50:00 Too many damn councils for one. So much inefficiency that its crazy. What we really need to do is harness the synergies between all of them and amalgamate them all to intensify the returns we procure :thumbs:The only problem with "harnessing synergies" is that the synergies you are harnessing are those of d***head local body politicians (one step removed from central government d***heads). To paraphrase Douglas Adams "Anyone who thinks they are qualified to be a politician should be automatically disqualified from standing for the position".

I've said it before here - I believe in one man, one vote - I believe I am that man.... :D

Oops! Can't have it both ways.... :) :)

573489 2007-07-29 06:13:00 What makes you think that Auckland is the only divided City in New Zealand?

More importantly. What would YOU do to FIX the problems you perceive?

I would amalgamate all the local bodies into 1 Auckland city. One mayor, once town clerk, one of this, one of that.

One transport authority responsible for air, road, rail.

I would announce the number of staff and councilors they have now in total and then work over the next few years to greatly reduce the number, but keeping the same number of "workers" on the ground/coal face. this way we would see the efficiencies gained and the savings. And if not we would be able to nail them

This would save a lot of duplication.

One set of rules, building consents etc, make it easier for builders, planners, indeed I would go so far as to have one set of building rules/codes for the who l country with a few variations to allow for different climates.

573490 2007-07-29 06:21:00 Make some speeches in parliament that get shown on tv
Complain about Auckland's poor infrastructure
Say that Auckland has good infrastructure
Complain about Auckland's many local bodies.
Say That Auckland has a good local body system.
Get a write up in the Herald's 10 page supplement on Auckland last week
Show us her tits

But at least do something to justify and earn her position.

We do get to see/hear from most other ministers

DigbyUhhh, I just had a look online for pics of Judith Tizard. And you want to see her breasts? Sad sad puppy

Much of your post deleted due to trying to be brief. At least your post shows you have thought about issues.

Now while I agree in some respects about what you said I do fail to understand how people living in Remuera could have the same issues as people living in Otahuhu. Local Government is important as MMP is too.

Now Auckland has transport problems and want to inflict problems on the rest of the country. Now is the rest of the country liable for how long it takes you to get to work?

So the rest of the country has to pay a levy (tax) on petrol so the people who happen to live in Auckland as a whole can upgrade roads or motorways. Now is this fair on any person whom does not live in Auckland and has no intention of visiting? People who live in Auckland have the option of moving assuming they can find work or are otherwise able to support themselves and/or family.
Toll roads may be the best way to go.

If we take your advice to NZ Government level then we only need one Party, a few politicians, a few advisors and etc.

It only takes all voters in every place to agree on every issue regardless of where they reside. Could you do that?

Everyone has to own a Holden as I do not like Fords.

If I were prime minister I would ban every party but mine.
You will not get a vote at the next election though.
Auckland will be nuked even if I have to invite an overseas airforce to do it.
You will not be allowed to own a black cat as it might be Friday 13th and you just may cross the road or fall off the edge of the world assuming this is flat.
(mixed metaphors)

And why do we not have a Minister for mens affairs?

Does this imply more women than men have affairs?

All the above is very much tongue in cheek.

One set of laws. One country. Justice, for everyone sort of suits me.

Have just noticed that your post contained nothing about being accountable.
But then. Why would it?
