757192 2009-03-17 18:14:00 Hi everyone,

I was just wondering out of interest if anyone has come across any good, free codecs for Quicktime running under Windows. Particuarly Xvid and the like.

Cheers,

Paul

Personally I never use quicktime. I prefer VLC or GOM

EDIT:Oops, misread your post..do you need codes for quicktime? Or to play Quicktime files?

If the latter, download K-Lite, as noted below.

757194 2009-03-17 20:10:00 The K-Lite codec (http://www.codecguide.com/) pack will allow you to play QuickTime. Not sure if it supports the very latest versions or not, but most newer .mov files are just Mpeg4 anyhow. autechre (266)
757195 2009-03-17 22:19:00 Thanks guys. I have the K-Lite codec pack...was actually implying codecs for the Quicktime player itself. I usually use vlc but have just been dabbling with Apple Software recently!

cheers

757196 2009-03-17 22:26:00 Looks like you can use these in QT (www.apple.com)

But the Xvid install file is only for Apple PC's not windows

757197 2009-03-17 23:30:00 Most QuickTime components are for OS X; installing a QT component there makes it available to the vast majority of "media-centric" apps. On Windows it's a different story and QuickTime is really only just a player and very few apps hook into it. Nermal (7077)
