574690 2007-07-31 20:05:00 Hi Guys

After the article in the Herald on NZ's broadband speeds - they asked readers to submit their results on the test site Speedtest.net I thought I would try mine.

I am reasonably happy with my speeds on Actrix 2495 kbps d/l and 133 up.

Speed test is a very impressive looking site, well its home page certainly is)

But what amazed me was the window in the bottom right hand corner when it shows you the best 5 continents, countries and ISPs.

Countrywise Japan came out top and Sweden was next, that was fairly predictable although I would have expected to see S Korea there.

But the next three countries blew me away Latvia, Romania and Bulgaria !
They are hardly known as world leading technology countries. Is this for real ?

regards

574691 2007-07-31 21:31:00 The saddest part of the stats they provide is that NZ is faster than just 18% of connections. Tell us something we didn't know! johcar (6283)
574692 2007-07-31 21:41:00 Yes I thought S Korea was the fastest. It showed that on a recent Documentary I watched, but maybe it was an old Doco.

Getting onto this forum for me with Ihug Broadband feels like a slow dialup connection at the moment.

574694 2007-08-01 00:40:00 At work we have 8988 down and 766 up at the moment - thats pretty normal. At home I get about 3850 down and 160 up. It's supposed to be 128 up but i'm not complaining  I'm actually pretty pleased with it at home - seeing I live out in the wops. wratterus (105)

O_O Maybe the cache didn't reset before you re-done the test? But usually you don't have to do that for speedtest.net

Here's my current specs with Vodafone, on Max/Max plan, but I need a new modem with better firmware for dealing with the DSLAMS (or thats what I've been told, it's on it's way here anyway) -

As reported by modem :
736 Kbps Upload 1888 Kbps Download

As reported by speedtest.net

-to Auckland (I am in Auckland):
582 Kbps Upload 1607 Kbps Download
www.speedtest.net (http://www.speedtest.net)

-to New York
340 Kbps Upload 1459 Kbps Download

All tests conducted ~8.20pm, will try some at midnight if I remember and see if there's a notable difference.
