573769 2007-07-29 06:17:00 My main point is to sort the PressF1 forum into various issues possibly. Not planning on changing ChatF1 as that is off topic or non computer help related.

This is the reason I posted on purpose in the PressF1 section for those that need or want to know.

I do not think I am lazy but sometimes I get a little tired of threads that start "need help" and I have no idea what the person wants HELP with. So then I have to go back though previous threads or posts to figure out what may be going on.

Then we have all the people who try to give help and do not read or comprehend the question before making the reply.

I TRY to explain a problem, if I have one, in a manner that explains the problem and anything I have tried to do to fix the problem.

Problems can be related or not as the case may be.

If you have a post which has a TITLE "My computer won't boot." Followed by text saying, " I turned it on but it does not go." What questions would you have to ask in order to accurately diagnose the problem?

If you were looking at a post like that would you go to the trouble of searching/reading other posts by the same person if any? What would you do if the above comes as the first post by a new user for example?

PressF1 is a computer HELP forum and there are those here whom can and do HELP. For that I thank them.

My reason for starting this thread was mostly as I see PressF1 members talking among themselves and not getting to the issue.

If IE7 was broken then let us fix the application.
Offering an alternative is not the correct answer in my opinion.

If we all change to Firefox as a browser and we change all software etc including all operating systems etc. And everyone HAS to own a Mac. And we all use open source software. Also we ALL have a Ford/Holden AMD/Intel as we have to. Insert your brand wherever.

Fortunately I built my computer and use what I want in the way of the operating system and applications. This way I can be reasonably productive.

I do realise that some people may use a Win PC at home and have to use a Mac at work for example.
Try hovering your pointer over the thread before clicking it. A dialogue box appears, containing most of the question or have i missed your point

Sorry Plod. You may have missed my point. Or not.

Maybe I should not try to help. Most of the question is not enough for me. Added to that hovering the pointer will not show replies will it?

573772 2007-07-29 14:04:00 I might also say that this thread was transferred to ChatF1I will shut up now. Sweep (90)
573773 2007-07-29 15:05:00 the real problem is the human element. sorry to say but i don't see changing the layout will achieve anything. you will simply get the general section filled with all the "need help" questions.

if this forum had the hundreds of threads a day like other forums then yes it would be worth reorganising things.

its difficuilt to deal with the human element at times, you just have to take it with a grain of salt ;)

You may well be correct. But if the forum PressF1 was split into Win, Mac, Linux then people who happen to have knowledge could go direct to their area of expertise.

Then those who happen to use a Mac will not annoy others that do have knowledge of Winxx.

What has has getting me recently are posts by certain people who just want to push their own barrow.

Yep. I am not perfect either.
I elect to make my own decisions and will wear the consequences thereof.

All I am really asking for, I guess, is for people to communicate the problem in a manner I can understand.

Now if we take this thread:-
pressf1.pcworld.co.nz

I find that I have a difficulty in communication here.

I ask a question and get an answer which makes no sense to me. The person who posted wants help. Fair enough.

Could you work out what is going on? And of course you know what "thing and it" means.

If I went to a Doctor and say, "I have a headache." I would be a little surprised if he/she removed my appendix.

I would be even more surprised if it worked.

Actually that does not look too bad. Not quite my idea but I get the picture. Thank you for the link.

573775 2007-07-30 01:13:00 Id like to put my 2 cents into this . As a user of the site .
The best all round computer help site Ive found, I might add .

That old adage comes to mind, if it aint f%^k^d dont f&%k it any more .

Something like that . :dogeye:

I find Press F1 easy to get around as it is, I guess you have to think about who the forum is for, us regular users would have trouble finding things  and get grumpy . New users would have no trouble at all :yuck:

573776 2007-07-30 02:21:00 The only thing that F1 might add is a "Cloud" for search..but that's about it in my opinion. SurferJoe46 (51)

Being that a lot of Mac users also know how to use Windows, we can also help with some Windows problems.:)
