| 574246 | 2007-07-31 06:12:00 | I was disappointed with Pita Sharples on the News this morning, who, when questioned about the alarming statistics showing Maori to be proportionately by far the biggest offenders when it comes to injuring children . His best response was Paedophilia is a Pakeha problem. Not a helpful response, but one that at least identifies the problem. :stare: |

| 574247 | 2007-07-31 06:24:00 | But hear them 'traf' in bed! . . . . Never-u-mind, what a well thought out post!, I hear you loud and clear . . It is a delema for sure . Not too long ago, we wouldn't have to worry about such matters as parenting skills were handed down from the family, extended family . With so many agencies and help centres today, i seems to me there are numerous avenues for young teenagers to leave the family nucleus too early and set off to live ill prepared for a family . Perhaps its too easy with the government hand outs left right and centre . I have thought for a long time, we need parenting classes in school, and maybe even something to try and re-enforce respect for others . I do think there should be banning for some parents who have there children removed from them . I know we all feel it is our right to reproduce, however there are too many that use this as career . I dont think any smacking law will ever protect children as the only people who abide by the laws of the land, have the same moral fiber as those that make the laws . I think we need to tackle the cause, violence in this area will always bred violence . It will be trained in the off-spring, we see it time after time . Working for Families was a great start, we need to get these career mums off the state dependancy, isolate the violence fathers, and start educating the young in life skills before they leave school and start the cycle over . About the two highlighted quotes above: I agree that things are not the way they OUGHT to be, but what you say, although true, isn't practical "today" and that's sad . We can't blame the schools . . . they just do what we want them to do anyway . We can't blame the laws as they are the manifest of our own desires . Let me illustrate . In the US, we have kids who can't even correctly write their own names or put a finger on a globe to show where the US is . If we are to speak of the horrible-ness of what's happening to the family unit, the abuse of small children and the lack of compassion by outsiders, then we need to look at the perpetrators of the new lifestyle . . and the enemy is us! We demand instant satisfaction (follow me here, this will make sense later) . . . . and if we don't have the abilities to achieve happiness for ourselves, we pass the torch on to our children in the masked promise "MY kids will get a better education than I" or some such drivel . OK . . a college education is nice and a real button in society, but at what expense to our children or our families? Even in dirtwall and aboriginal societies, how're they gonna keep the kids on the "farm" once they've seen the outside world and it's eyecandy? Sometimes, I feel that we don't really want the better lifestyle for the kids, we just want the social status and chest-thumping we can use against our neighbors over a beer or bar-b . We want the kids to excel so we will have some way to sooth our conscience so that we can later say: "I did EVERYTHING for you and made you what you are today, (now pay me back!)" We lose the intimacy and general comfort of being in a family group of people who want only the good things to happen to us and seek to make life comfortable for the kids, but it's for our own purposes and greed . The real problem with this scene is that every generation seems to have to re-invent fire and the wheel every 20 years or so . What a waste of brainpower and time! With that in mind . . . figger this out: Technology, for all it's worth and lifestyle improvement, has actually made us a slave to those same idiot savants in our modern-educated children, who now, because of needs that exceed their usual childhood desires to grow and learn from knees and memories and family stories have to instead perform at a very high, very technical level . They get the short end of the poop stick . If we are to live a life of technology, we do so at the cost and debasement of our children, ourselves and we actually shortchange the tender years (so to speak) and formative times that we do not get to have as parents-with-children . Everything is so rushed now . . . get an education . . . learn technological things . . . . . don't bother with the more basic things, go for the gold . . . . . eschew trivial things like etiquette, manners and social skills for the almighty lifestyle of ease and security . Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way and we are seeing the fruits of this thinking . We raise children like penned cattle; we teach them the sciences but we deny them the compassion, the love and the family for the security of the future . . whatever that may be! We propagate and raise children too to be our own social security for our own old age . . . we leech off them . We deny them time to fingerpaint, sniff flowers . . . . and generally be kids any more as they need to accelerate to higher and higher goals to meet our selfish needs . They txtmsg, not learning Chaucer . Their eyes are dull with "reality" in X- and R-Rated movies and vidgames . They don't smile . They punish themselves with cutting, tattoos, piercings . They don't have any beauty left in them . . . . . . . . . . all because of being channeled into accelerated achievements and successes, never mind life as it should be lived . It's no wonder that the "babies-having-babies" have no parenting skills . . . . their parents were too busy getting "ahead of the rest of the pack" and they too had no time to teach by example . They weren't even likely home . How far from the tree will the acorn fall? With everybody trying to be or to raise Alpha dogs, what is the ultimate cost? We have met the enemy, and we is him . |

| 574249 | 2007-07-31 08:54:00 | Inter-generational welfare dependency. Its being spat all about the place over the last few days, and its right on the money. Worse case scenario. The state rewards those that don't want to work or develop life skills with money, The money is spent on alcohol and drugs, Producing a few offspring is rewarded with more money, to spend on alcohol and drugs. At this stage the kids are just getting in the way, they have served their purpose by bringing in money but are otherwise worthless. These kids grow up with these twisted views and learned behaviors, and repeat it, and seeing as they have no extended family to teach them right and wrong (because holy crap, there parents share the same mentality) then there is no control on what they do and they mistreat their children to the point of brain damage and death. The fact that schools, Police and now parents have been banned from disciplining those that can't treat others with respect only compounds the problem. Some people won't respond to anything less then a good thrashing, and the threat of more to come if they don't wise up. Whats the worst that can now happen to even the most violent offender in NZ? Prison?...food, bed, warmth, counseling, upmarket televisions, Join a gang for some brotherhood, Playstations, More drugs and alcohol.... However, If I saw it crap happennext door I would be over the fence quick smart, I'd take the kid, and pass it to the appropriate people. Hell, I'm so angry I want to leap the fence right now.....But the retired couple next door would consider me insane... As for the Maori party, Usually they claim whitey doesn't understand, that its Maori issues, They will take care of it, Just need funds. Unless it makes them look really bad, Then its a community issue, and whitey needs to fix it, Nothing to do with Maori. They of all peoples need to stand up and show their broad shoulders, State that they are Maori and proud, and that some of the youngsters are lost but they will help them carry the load of their shame, That they will help where they can, and punish where required. Let them take the lead, Then the rest of the community can follow their example, their show of strength, Because god dammit, If they have strength then right now is the time to show it. Otherwise they prove themselves weak, powerless and irrelevant. |
