573759 2007-07-29 05:09:00 Heh, the ironic thing is that shouldn't this thread be in the Chat forum?

As others say: not enough posts per day and people can't even handle the choice of two forums.

As you know everything I suggest you contact a moderater and shift the thread. Feel free to do this.

573760 2007-07-29 05:14:00 the real problem is the human element. sorry to say but i don't see changing the layout will achieve anything. you will simply get the general section filled with all the "need help" questions.

if this forum had the hundreds of threads a day like other forums then yes it would be worth reorganizing things.

its difficult to deal with the human element at times, you just have to take it with a grain of salt ;)
I agree with tweak'e you simply seem to be bitching about how stupid people are. Simply making more forums will just give stupid people more places to post. Its a common problem on all forums and one that has yet to find a solution.

If someone posts a solution you don't like then perhaps you should take the time to post a better solution and the reason as to why its a better solution. Once again simply dividing the forum will merely give "muppets" more places to post solutions you don't like.

573761 2007-07-29 05:23:00 I can see a justification for generating a few persistent threads with names like "Irrelevant, but I hate <name of computer manufacturer>". The moderators could move responses which don't offer help for the questioners problem, but just inform us that the writer hates the particular brand. One recent question received 42 responses. 7 referred to the problem. The rest were reactions to the manufacturer's name. I'm sure the questioner was delighted to be told that their new purchase was rubbish by arrogant people who had no help to offer about the problem. I doubt if the questioner will come back.

I know your mind is closed, But perhaps you have the capacity to consider for the tiniest moment that instead of hate (and none of us hate, get off that horse) we were naming the gear for what it is, Not only making the thread starter more informed but also enlightening others who would read the thread.

At the end of the day the greater good is served, Even if the thread starter may not like the truth, Nor if some arrogant knee-jerkers would blame it on some bizarre notion of hate based on a brand name.

573762 2007-07-29 05:29:00 Personally, If I was a nub and I bought crap I would appreciate being informed of the truth.

Likewise if I thought IE was a worthy browser.

Whats so offensive about the truth?

What if some-one needs IE to run a game or something like that? I'm only asking this because I came across an on-line game that wouldn't run on firefox properly, hence needing the IE.

573765 2007-07-29 05:41:00 A place where Linux fans can hangout in silence wearing their turtleneck skivviesLol, stereotypical bastard :p
I don't own a turtleneck skivvy. In fact I probably own as many black t-shirts as you (though Ive never owned a Motorhead one)

I like this forum the way it is.. 2 forums. Yes of course we like to chat to each other, rark up others, and somewhere in there maybe address the problem. Its human nature to have our own point of view, to stand up for what we believe is right (and for some, never to back down even when we know we might be wrong). Its also human nature to be competitive, to favour this over that etc etc. If there were no opinions, would there be any forums? Even Speedy, who most consider to be fantastic at helping, expresses his opinion occassionally

Besides, if we split the forum up now, who is going to sort out the old posts into their respective new forums?

573766 2007-07-29 05:43:00 I thought it was the Linux types that walked around in socks and sandals and the Mac types that had the mock turtle neck, jeans and New Balance trainers. ;) winmacguy (3367)
573767 2007-07-29 05:43:00 Maybe just split the page into two columns .

"A" column would be serious answers with insight and responses to the actual problem

Column "B" would be wise-ass answers for levity and smart-aleck buttheads who like to deride the a) questioner b) the OPSYS c) the brand of computer d) the misspelled words and attacks on the person's mother, country of origin, religion and if they live above- or under a rock .

Maybe a third column ("C") would be good too . Let the texters have it .
