While I would like to HELP on PressF1 I find it difficult at times. Open a question and find it relates to various operating systems etc.

As in "my !E7 does not work."
Answer "get another browser."
This will not fix the application in my opinion.
Should we have PressF1 split into Win, Mac, Linux
Then Win xxx like Win 95, 98, me, xp, vista and etc

I think you have answered yr own question;
If you are not familiar with other OS's do not worry about it,someone who is will come along and try to help and if you are interested you may pick up something in the replies. If you want to help then stick to things you know about.
I know PF1 is Kiwi so I feel most posts will be answered by Kiwis but I have no problem
going to other forums.

573742 2007-07-29 02:23:00 I think splitting the help section into Windows, Linux & General (to capture the threads that the poster has no idea where to put) would be a good idea, especially noting the increased amount of Linux queries we're getting. I'm not so sure about the mac section though - no-one really posts much in the way of help requests for macs. I think that should be the limit of the split though; we don't have enough posts to warrant more. Erayd (23)
573743 2007-07-29 02:23:00 This topic was done to death back in 2003/2004... somebody (208)
573744 2007-07-29 02:27:00 This has been "discussed"several times .

The site isn't busy enough to justify the problems splitting into categories would cause .

Many people with computer problems don't know what OS they are using . ;)

I can see a justification for generating a few persistent threads with names like "Irrelevant, but I hate <name of computer manufacturer>" . The moderators could move responses which don't offer help for the questioners problem, but just inform us that the writer hates the particular brand . One recent question received 42 responses . 7 referred to the problem . The rest were reactions to the manufacturer's name . I'm sure the questioner was delighted to be told that their new purchase was rubbish by arrogant people who had no help to offer about the problem . I doubt if the questioner will come back .

573745 2007-07-29 02:30:00 But back in 2003/2004 we didn't have this many posts... Erayd (23)
573746 2007-07-29 02:34:00 A whole 25 threads active in the PressF1 forum yesterday. That's information overload? Graham L (2)

People do have Mac related problems although not in the virus area which tends to be a bigger issue for PC users. Most sites that cover Mac related stuff tend to be discussion sites. Part of the reason not many people post Mac related problems here is probably because the site header says Press F1/PC World.

I am guessing that related to a Dell PC. ;)
