2007-07-31 10:45:00 | I have thought for a while that it would be great to have a forum here where users can sell stuff to each other. I think everyone here would greatly benefit from this, myself obviously included. This will save all PF1 users Trade Me fees, as there are always people selling their computers, and always people buying them. It would be a great way to help users to get a good computer for them (assuming second hand ones here), as our experts could help point people looking for a PC to a good match in the BSE (buy/sell/exchange) forum. It would be a fair rule that those who run computer businesses, like myself, don't try to excessively peddle their products. I would love, however, to be able to offer everyone here the ex-lease computers I pick up for prices they could never get them on Trade Me for (though perhaps confining it to one thread). Do you guys think this forum would be a good idea?

2007-07-31 10:53:00 | Would be good. Also... why no commercial offerings? As long as the thread doesn't get flooded by one retailer, I don't see why not - it adds value to the forum and helps keep the PF1 userbase loyal and viewing FBM ads. | Erayd (23) | |

2007-07-31 11:05:00 | Mr Metla started one a while back and warmly welcomed all PF1ers to make use of it... from memory not many did, which was a shame. I've been looking through TM and always unimpressed by 'dealers' trying to flog things for 'retail'... or more in the case of one saying they sold a CPU for over $300 when a check around revealed actual retailers selling for $150.00 or less. Maybe if it was limited to PF1 members and no mention of Macs it would work. I've got a good supply of bits in the cupboard

2007-07-31 11:13:00 | When I say a forum, I mean adding a board to this one. I think that would work a lot better than a standalone forum which wouldn't get enough traffic to really function by itself. Whether commercial offering should be allowed is really a decision for the admins of the forum. I personally don't have a problem with it, and would probably try to sell my own new computers if I was allowed to. But I think it would be fair if it wasn't allowed too. The ideal solution would be a limit of one thread at a time for people selling lots of stuff. The PF1 -> Fairfax -> TradeMe thing didn't occur to me, but I don't think it will really hurt Trade Me's profits in any important way. On the other hand, it will be one more aspect of this forum to encourage people to use it more, which means more ad views, which means more profit. Either way, it takes a minute to make a board, and the PF1 community would enjoy it, so what's to lose.

2007-07-31 11:18:00 | This topic has come up many times before, and as mentioned, Metla set up TradeF1 a while ago. What's the difference between members selling their commercial goods and spammers making posts for their commercial goods? Don't forget pcworld is a commercial website and businesses pay to advertise their goods. While I can see the benefits, IMHO it would turn into a nightmare with who is abusing it vs spammers vs who has to clean it all up vs genuine posts. Why not set up TradeF1 again and keep it separate to PressF1?

2007-07-31 12:11:00 | So why not limit it to users with more than 20 posts, thus weeding out spammers? | george12 (7) | |
2007-07-31 12:43:00 | So why not limit it to users with more than 20 posts, thus weeding out spammers? How hard do you think it is to get 20 posts or more??? I could easily sign up, and get my 20 post in 2 or 3 days and start selling. Including it in this would be a bad idea but I agree with Jen on setting up TradeF1 again and keeping it separate to PressF1.
