574140 2007-07-30 09:03:00 Now where do I stand with a Movie transmitted by a TV Station - I save to my HDD Video Recorder, edit the commercials out and burn a CD from the recording of the TV programme - How many unenforceable Laws have I broken. KenESmith (6287)
574141 2007-07-30 09:08:00 Too many to count:p winmacguy (3367)
574142 2007-07-30 09:12:00 Well if they didnt want people to break the law, then they shouldnt have invented the VCR / TV tuners, HD / DVD recorders, and programs to record them with.

Or TV's, computers, and DVD burners, for that matter.

I understand your point but you could say that about a lot of things than can and have been abused and extorted, ie: take Cars for an example You could say why make them go fast if your going to have speed limits, Why make them if you can't boost em? Or why have Beer and Cars if you can't drink & Drive?
The list would be almost limit less.

they just shouldn't have such strict laws, and maybe if the DVD of a movie/show/game didn't cost $120 and music wasn't $30 a cd they'd have less trouble.

seriously, in my computer science/programming paper i'm doing they have told us we can buy MATLAB (which we will only use for half the semester) for $70 or have to use uni computers in certain buildings.... funnily enough no-one's keen to buy it and i hear someone found it on bittorrent:rolleyes:

last semester they offered prodesktop (entry level cad software) for only 5 bucks - i don't think one person bothered to pirate

That is the reason Apple started iTunes in the US at 99c a track even though the music industry demanded some form of DRM be attached to that they didn't loose control. If you make digital video and music files cheap enough then you remove most of the need to pirate them. The only problem with this concept is that it represents a new way of thinking.
