758135 2009-03-20 08:18:00 Evening all,
A message appeared last night to say I have 2 more changes left before my player locks onto the last region played.
Most of my DVD's are region4, but often ones purchased from the Warehouse are region2.
If I re-install the drive, will it reset itself, or is there some freeware I can instal to overcome the problem?
The player is an LG super multi with Lightscribe DVD Ram drive, and is using Power DVD version 7.
Any advice would be helpful.

758138 2009-03-22 20:44:00 Yeah, the region code setting is typically limited to being changed only 5 times, then it gets locked and no further changes are allowed.

Odd isn't it.

Once again the owners of copyrighted media content are over-riding the rights of the actual hardware owners (you) and the purchasers of their media.

Or in other words, the RIAA, MPAA etc are again reaching into your own business and inconveniencing you for their own benefit.

And the powers that be allow it.

758139 2009-03-22 21:38:00 Yet some drives have easy methods of resetting the change counter without needing new firmware, there's free software that will reset Liteons and Asus?? had a method involving holding down play and stop buttons. PaulD (232)
758140 2009-03-22 22:59:00 Best way is to reflash it with patched firmware to make it region free. Then you don't need to have any hassle installing any programs.

Otherwise, I would suggest DVD43 as it is free.

758141 2009-03-23 09:51:00 I thank you all for the advice, especially blam6. He pointed me to a site Region Killer.
Before I try this, DVD Region Killer 2.7.0.2 . Can you tell me if anyone has used this and just how good is it?
This may solve the problem for myself and others.

758143 2009-03-23 20:12:00 Every single school laptop(1600 laptops) uses it, and it works fine. Blam (54)

If you have to pay for it then don't bother. DVD43 does what you need and it's free.
