757956 2009-03-20 01:09:00 A mate has just got a Mac and has been told he cannot get broadband. He has also been told that if he wants to go on-line he will have to get a dial-up modem. Told that they cost $300.00. That sounds a lot to me. Can he use an ordinary external PC modem such as a Dynalink V1456VQE? Appreciate any replies. kati kid (14729)
757957 2009-03-20 01:25:00 Only if it is Mac supported, very few are. Bantu (52)

Not sure if that will be of assistance or not.

757959 2009-03-20 02:01:00 Thanks for the replies. I will take him a Dynalink modem I have and see if it will plug in to his Mac. If it takes a serial plug we will give a go. kati kid (14729)
757960 2009-03-20 02:25:00 "Supplied PPP Script files suitable for OS8 and above only (OS8 does not require script file and the modem will work fine with exisisting system drivers) . FaxSTF requires OS 7.2 and above. Requires standard Mac serial port (not compatible with iMacs or blue G3/G4)"

So the support for the model listed is pretty old.

757964 2009-03-20 04:20:00 The Apple external modem is $99, not $300. maccrazy (6741)
757965 2009-03-20 06:22:00 Oh joy.
I remember at Orcon we all had a session with a Mac of some kind - and an external dialup modem. So we could advise customers ringing for help with them. No-one could get the thing to work.

We gave up and moved on to the far easier broadband modem.......
