| 575292 | 2007-08-04 05:31:00 | Only been asked once - 50 years ago in the UK, but I had exams coming up and managed to convince somebody that although I wanted to serve I doubted I could concentrate on the facts of the case - I also asked for only a deferment so that I could serve later on. Never heard anything again. Pity - I always wanted the opportunity. My wife was asked some years ago but didn't get selected and recently has been sent for again. But we are both well clear of the 65 age rule and in poor health so no chance - which we regret - and feel sorry for those poor souls who have objections to serving. I notice one person reckoned that jury lists were selected from driver licences - not here in NZ - my wife has never had a drivers licence/ Tom |

| 575293 | 2007-08-04 05:47:00 | I was called three times and I turned up every time, but for some reason the Defence challenged me every time - perhaps my face was a bit too honest (?) or perhaps they overheard me outside saying if the cops go to the trouble of catching you, you must be guilty. Wouldn't know, been 10 years isnce my last call up. sarel |

| 575294 | 2007-08-04 10:20:00 | Parent help on a school trip with a lack of volunteers got me out of it once. (Then my daughter fell off a horse, ended up at A&E with a broken arm and we went home). Actually wouldn't mind doing it once for the experience - if it wasn't for the hour travel each way in Auckland rush hour traffic to get there with no free parking in town. Dad, 78, got called up recently which entertained Mum no end. He is in a nursing hospital with dementia. Her excuse letter on his behalf was accepted. |

| 575296 | 2007-08-04 11:53:00 | A note of caution here, if you tell the clerk of the court you are a nutter, or anything else thays thats not normal the fuzz will pull your gun license. So if you have a gun license dont use any other reason other than you are too busy. Say you are bigoted, racist, seperated, stressed, and you may be toast. tedheath |
