575262 2007-08-02 01:58:00 I have been asked twice so far in my 29 years. The last time just recently and my excuse was #1. I work and cant afford the time off. #2. I am a single mum with a child who is not of the legal age to be left unattended. (children have to be 14 before left at home alone and the hours for jury duty can vary, very long hours and even weekends.)

I would love to do jury service at least once for the experience of it but not just yet.

575263 2007-08-02 02:33:00 Yes.. The company i work for won't give you time off to server. So you eather take it off as leave or unpaid leave.

This was the reason i gave last time and I was let off..

I like many of you could not afford to take weeks off without pay to do this sort of stuff..

From my understanding it is illegal for a company to make you take the time off as leave or unpaid leave, if they have exhausted all options to get you off Jury Service.
They also have to make up the difference in pay from what you get as a Juror to your normal pay.

But I may be wrong

575264 2007-08-02 02:35:00 At the interview, they asked me what I thought of the justice system .

I told them that everybody who appears before a judge is guilty .

They asked me how I came to that conclusion .

I told them that at one time or another, everyone has broken a law at least once if not several times and this was just the way the law was gonna get even and catch up with them .

I haven't been asked back since .

Oh, very nice lol:D:thumbs:

575266 2007-08-02 03:55:00 Cyabro: don't rely on that idea . If they posted it to a correct address you are assumed (by law) to have received it .

"Excuses" aren't allowed as grounds for exemption . The law requires reasons . A note from mum won't work . Here's how you can apply (www . howtolaw . co . nz/html/ml128 . asp) .

Of course you could get yourself disqualified . Just get yourself sentenced to more than 3 years in jail, or become a MP . Or certified as having a mental disability . (This is probably considered to be equivalent to the other grounds) .

You are. A good employer might make up the difference but it is their choice.

It's about time the payment was lifted to match the minimum pay rate at least.

575268 2007-08-02 04:59:00 We have a special provision in our contract at work where we can either take Jury leave and repay any juror's fees we receive to the business or we can take annual leave and keep the fee. Sam's Dad (11848)

Can't you just tell the court that you are a regular on Press F1 and see where that gets you?
