576558 2007-08-05 19:24:00 It's slightly ironic that on another thread people have posted about the fact that the only thing really new about Vista is the fancy new look and how it doesn't really make any advance on the previous incarnation of Windows.

So, it's good to see that people are hacking out thousands of lines of code for a fancy look on "competing" OSs...Other than the new look, what does Vista actually have. MS ditched the new filesystem they were going to have, they ditched a lot of other things, DX10 still hasn't really kicked in. Vista was supposed to be "all that and more".

Linux on the other hand is like the wildcard. Not too many people (outside of regular users) actually know the full capabilities (most of which already blow MS away in regards to capabilities). This video is just one of quite a few things Linux can now do that supercedes Vista's "new cutting edge" technology

576561 2007-08-05 22:26:00 They could have found a sexier name then Beryl. wratterus (105)
576562 2007-08-05 22:39:00 That's all very well for people who want to play, but what the hell use is it for a serious computer user? I just want to get work done, I don't need eye-candy so a plain vanilla interface and as little screen fluff as possible is what attracts my attention.

If I saw that stuff on an employee's screen I'd be thoroughly pissed, and if I saw it on the screen of anybody touting for my business I'd look elsewhere on the basis that if they have time to play with all that crap they must be overcharging me.

Cheers

576563 2007-08-06 01:31:00 It’s just the way they demo it that make it look like a kid’s toy.

I find the cube desktop rotation brilliant for having multiple things happening at a time, I set mine so I press the [Windows key] [arrows] to flip from screen to screen.

576564 2007-08-06 03:10:00 It does make it easier to flip between users or in the case of "Spaces" to flip between applications. winmacguy (3367)
576565 2007-08-06 10:36:00 CompizFusion will be a part of the next Ubuntu out-of-the-box which is due in 2 months time!! :D

Many of those are already available with Beryl though... Obviously, as CF is the infusion of Compiz + Beryl.

I'll read that review later on, but it looks interesting :)
Ive been surprised how many people I know are willing to buy a Mac now after those Mac Ads. They just simply dont know that Linux exists!

576566 2007-08-06 10:41:00 BTW - Billy:
I find it insanely frustrating being on a windows box at work, I hate it, its so unproductive having only a single desktop.
Sure things like the "wobble" effect are just eye-candy etc, but multiple desktops are so useful! :)
