575704 2007-08-03 08:44:00 Win 3.xx was the first windows boot sector virus

Wasn't unitil 1991 when a guy called Linus Torvalds introduced himself, was a cure found for that boot sector virus.

must be true Geoff Palmer said so.

:lol::lol::lol::lol:
Except that the cure is taking a while to become mainstream.

575705 2007-08-03 09:32:00 All our servers are linux (Suse, read Novell) file, printing etc and a couple of Centros boxes
I think linux has quite a good hold on the server os market

575706 2007-08-03 09:40:00 It does indeed although I was thinking more of the desktop/home user market. I am aware that Linux servers run most of the internet. winmacguy (3367)
575707 2007-08-03 10:50:00 Probably when Windows cornered the market.

OK. You realised that Windows cornered the MARKET.
May I ask what year did you notice this?

I was infected with the "stoned" virus while running a 386 system. This while driving a tow truck in Australia. I used to do all jobs and enter on my computer and transfer the data via floppy 3.5" to my boss. He would fill in fields and returned floppy and that is what I got paid. Unfortunately I rebooted my system with his returned floppy.
Wrong decision! I was able to fix it though.

A number of years ago people thought the earth was flat. I think that theory has fallen flat.

If you can PROVE to me that a Personal Computer from any manufacturer can make me more productive then I may learn.

Then I need to learn a new O/S I think. Then I buy applications to actually do something.

Now you may be correct in so far as the majority was proven wrong when certain people sailed or circumnavigate this planet we live on.

Keep pushing it. You may be correct.

They may have garnered a very large part of the market, but Apple have gathered in nearly all the suckers.

Some might say otherwise.

I have now only realised that the Earth is indeed flat.

Thank you for pointing that out.

You appear to live in Auckland with a view of a place in North America. Does a Mac come with a webcam or have you a very large telescope which overcomes horizon difficulties?

575712 2007-08-03 22:16:00 Stoned virus, ah yes, wasn't a unnamed NZ coder credited with that one.

The virus I enjoyed the most (if you can enjoy virus's) was the cascade Word Marco virus. All of a sudden all your hard work would end up in pile at the bottom of the document , often referred to as Alphabet Soup.

Oooh way back in the 90's I think ;) Doesn't mean to say that things wont be changing a bit as time goes on though. :)
