1436545 2017-06-19 03:29:00 I am trying replace the aluminium window latch but couldn't remove the screw.

What type of driver I need to unscrew it? 8117

I only have (-) and (+) screw drivers.

I need a special tool to unscrew it?

1436546 2017-06-19 03:34:00 Just a square head, looks like a S2 probably, a very standard bit. wratterus (105)
1436547 2017-06-19 04:18:00 Yup. Bunnings has one.

New problem: Bunnings doesn't have the type of latch like this: 8118

Nebulite seems to be the original manufacturer.

1436548 2017-06-19 04:20:00 I'd find a joiner and take the old latch in. They are bound to have a second hand one that would fit. I've had to do this before and was actually given the latch. wratterus (105)
1436549 2017-06-19 04:27:00 You can get square head screwdrivers everywhere now. Husband loves the square head screws. pctek (84)
1436550 2017-06-19 04:56:00 I bought my square head screw bits (Robertson) on ebay for about 2 NZ dollars - S1, S2, and S3, which have a 1/4 " hex head. I used a 1/4" female mini ratchet, (goo.gl) also from ebay for NZ 2 dollars. But work with my impact driver, and drill(s)

1436551 2017-06-19 05:02:00 The latches are fairly universal and don't necessarily have to match the old ones unless that would bother you. My kitchen window had a latch like that until some delightful burglar broke it and I just fitted a standard one from Bunnings without the double sided latch.
works just fine and it's the same colour so you don't really notice.

1436552 2017-06-19 08:12:00 Mitre 10 have a good selection too. Bryan (147)
1436553 2017-06-19 10:03:00 Thank you folks, ordered the square bits from eBay.

Will get the latch from Bunnings as recommended by dugimodo.

1436554 2017-06-19 12:44:00 Yeah the square head is the best, either use a good quality square head screw driver or,in my case a lithium ion impact driver (AEG combo) depending on your likely long term use. Shop around most of the popular latches have replacements, as mentioned Mitre10 seems to have a good selection. Laggard (17509)
