1436323 2017-06-08 22:32:00 My friend recently bought a new computer with windows10 pre-loaded.
On startup he gets a message which asks him to "authenticate windows". When he clicks the button to authenticate windows he gets a message which tells him that that authentication number has been used and to "authenticate windows". Apart from that windows is working correctly, however I felt that it may stop if he doesn't get an authentification number which windows will accept.
Will someone please advise?

1436325 2017-06-08 23:37:00 Is it a locally assembled PC (not a laptop)
If so, There may be a COA sticker on the side with the Win10 key. Use that key : (change product key, enter product key)
Locally assembled PC's often dont have the key preloaded into win, you have to do it yourself

Or , if its old stock, it may have been a Win7,8 lic thats been used for 10 .

Or, could just be a dodgy seller , loading a dodgy version of 10

If you ring MS activation , they should be able to help you.
Or take it back to the seller, its the sellers issue, not yours

1436326 2017-06-09 01:06:00 Yeppppppppp Depending on what type of PC.

If its a PC that's been built up, AND its a legit W10 you should have been given the licence key. They Don't come with Stickers these days they come on a card about the size of a credit card. Got two here that I'm building right now. :)

The reason I mention if its legit, and its built by someone other than a name brand, then legally you should have been given the licence. Name brands have the Licence key embedded in the motherboard.

1436327 2017-06-09 01:17:00 Thanks Guys, Just what I told him. Bought from Harvey Normal, but got for half the shop price. He's happy. Had to authenticate it by phone. All fixed. Many thanks. theother1 (3573)
