| 1436318 | 2017-06-08 05:46:00 | Malwarebytes are advertising that their product now "makes anti-virus obsolete" Currently checks for Malware Protection, Web protection, Exploit protection, Ransomeware protection. It does not mention Virus protection. I am currently running it alongside Defender. Question: does Malwarebytes replace antivirus? |

When you download it runs for 14 days as the PREMIUM version, then unless you pay for it ( 1 year subscription $59.99) it then reverts to the basic version that does not have active protection, it only works when you manually run it -- In other words, close the door after the damage is done and clean up. If you are using the active (PREMIUM) then it should have automatically disabled Defender. As often two or more active protection programs will fight one another, until one or both are deactivated/killed by the other. Malwarebytes is not the be all to end all. Seen it countless times other antimalware programs detect infections Malwarebytes misses. |

Malware includes virus's. Virus's are a subset of malware so you could say "anti-virus" only scanner are long obselete , if going by a strict definition of virus Zero day Malware (brand new malware) usually gets straight past all AV/Anti-malware . It cant be detected or blocked if its so new the the Antimalware hasnt had updates written to detect it . So you get a 1 day rush of infections , then it drops off as the next day AV/malware will then be able to detect it: the new updates include sigs that detect it. |
