1436283 2017-06-05 22:24:00 My aluminium windows need some repair - I think the friction stay mechanism isn't working as it should. It just swings fully open.

Any good repairer to recommend? I am in East Auckland.

Thanks.

1436284 2017-06-05 23:54:00 You can buy those stays from hardware stores or window manufacturers and do it yourself, they only have a few screws on each side or rivets which you can easily drill out PeterQ (16315)
1436285 2017-06-06 00:42:00 The stays have to be replaced? Can't they be tightened? bk T (215)
1436286 2017-06-06 01:13:00 You can tighten some of them.
Depends what type you have.
But its only a temporary fix & wont last long.
If they are older windows they wont be worth replacing.
Unless you want then to open wide, get some of these fitted.

1436287 2017-06-06 08:20:00 My ranch slider is sticking.

Any suggestions on repair people, similar thing I think.

We cannot work out how to get it off the track, google, viewed, but can't find any adjusting screws etc.

Not sure we could anyway, too feeble for the weight of it.

Rollers probably just are encased in fluff etc, but then maybe they are buggered, so a trades person would be best. If I can find one.

Emailed on but no response....

1436288 2017-06-06 08:50:00 Done a few of those too.
There is usually an adjustable wheel at one end, sometimes both.
To get the door out, raise the rollers which will drop the door down.
You then have to lift the door to clear the bottom track and move the bottom of the door in or out, whichever works best.
Then you can drop it down to clear from the top channel.

Pretty good so far. I must say the door is much easier to handle without the glass. The mother in law must be pretty lucky, she will be out of hospital in a week, and will probably be walking within six months. (If the door had landed on her tongue instead of her leg she would be fit as a fiddle, but her legs don't get enough exercise to fight off falling ranch sliders.)
We are hoping that when the insurance (who have taken on the project now) have arranged the new door, sofa, and table they will put in a new carpet too.
Thanks for the tip, by following your advice we have a ranch slider that is just like new, plus the other updates and it has only cost $250. ;)

No wheel.

Can't lift it to clear track. That's the first issue. I googled this, watched videos, read websites, buggered if we can find any adjusty things anywhere, nothing at all, zilch.

And anyway it will be too heavy for us.

Any repair people recommendations?

1436291 2017-06-06 23:17:00 Try a company called Exceed. They specialise in repairs of this sort. We have used them in Whangarei. Richard (739)
