2017-06-03 20:36:00 | Sorry, W10 does not seem to be a "man in the street, average user friendly" system! I get the impression it's a whole lot of "fixes" that are rushed through, and don't work cause they are incompatible with other: updates, fixes etc. Every time I login to press F1 there seems to be problems, giving the impression of half baked updates for a half baked system. Oh yes, the solution to fix the fixes usually seems to be some arcane key presses in some subsystem that the the average "Jo Blogs" would not have a clue about. Thank God windows 10 is not a car. Maybe I have this all wrong, correct me if I'm wrong!! Sorry this post maybe more appropriate in the chat forum. So out of 4 computers in this house, no issues. My step son has that issue, waiting to here if its fixed. 130 desktops at my work, not a single issue. So not as bad as you make out. Of course BM will disagree since he has become a Linux god

2017-06-03 23:15:00 | Adding to Garys post -- Same here, 10 PC's all Running fine. The only ones that do play up are the insider builds, and that's to be expected as they are testing /pre-release. This one played up last week, but that was due to a failing Hard Drive - not a OS. Got a customers Laptop in the workshop, playing up badly, cloned the drive to a new drive 100% better now, their HDD is failing (tested - many bad sectors) The general problems with W10 are usually tacked back to a couple of things. One being an OS that's been upgraded from a previous version, eg: W7 to W10. EVERY time there has been a problem its been due to a previous corruption. Its well known that a fresh install is ALWAYS better and more stable than an upgrade,, and this is going back for years. The other problem is outdated hardware - the manufactures don't make drivers for the newer OS's. Other problems are again outdated programs - people to lazy to buy something newer, again Not MS's fault, blame the software manufacture of the original Software. Other problems are malware - seen plenty screw an OS. One funny thing happened a while back, had a guy turn up early to collect his computer I was fixing, I told him to have a play on the workshop PC while I finished. When his was ready, he made the comment "glad to see you're still using W7 and not W10" ------ Errrr What ! Sorry but that is W10, had to actually prove it was W10. ;) When you explain to someone "joe average" the differences between W7 and W10 so far every person has said (along the lines) of are you joking, is that it ? People must be stupid if they cant figure that out. :) Oh yes, the solution to fix the fixes usually seems to be some arcane key presses in some subsystem that the the average "Jo Blogs" would not have a clue about. Sorry totally wrong. MANY of the suggested repairs have been in windows for many years, even XP. They are now brought to the top to give more options. Most of the time people called service stores or techs to fix their computers. W10 is far more stable and self repairing than any other previous OS. Service work these days is more to do with other aspects of IT, and older OS's Esp W7.

2017-06-03 23:23:00 | I also have four W10 computers here without any issues that I can recall. All are upgrades, not fresh installs. I think the problem is that it is human nature to only comment when things go wrong. The 99.9% that have no problems just get on with it. The people with problems come to sites like this for help. That is why help sites seem to be full of complaints.

2017-06-04 00:10:00 | That is why help sites seem to be full of complaints. Yep, funny that isn't it :D Often I get calls -- The computer is running fine, no problems, But the <insert device - Printer, Modem etc> is playing up.

2017-06-04 00:37:00 | I think the main prob with the creator's update and the previous version of win10 are the drivers. They're screwed for wifi adapters. Altho, in my case, this useless modem is probably the cause of the disconnections I get, once in a while.. It just decides to stop after so long after being connected online (and after going to sites) And I noticed with the creators update, when it asked for a password when you installed it, the only way to fix it is to change everything under power options to never Before I could use netplwiz and put the password in and it wouldnt ask again. But, with the creator's update, if I woke it up from sleep (even after putting the password in), it would keep coming up with the password window. Now it cant do it because I stopped it from going to sleep

2017-06-05 23:01:00 | Maybe I have this all wrong, correct me if I'm wrong!! Well, in a help forum, of course you will see posts of people with issues :) What you dont see, is the Millions using 10 & not having any issues "Thank God windows 10 is not a car." Are you saying cars NEVER break down, never have mechanical issues, never have design issues, never run out of gas, crash, get stolen, have punctures Even some cars system computors can be hacked remotely , allowing hacker to disable the breaks etc.

2017-06-05 23:15:00 | Agree with all the positive posters 100%. Frankly, I am amazed but I can't actually remember any people coming back with problems with the comps I have had a hand in updating to win 10. Even with driver problems, I have only experienced one and that was with an old NVIDEA card in an old Dell. Regarding stats on problems, wonder what doctors think of the average health of our population?

2017-06-05 23:19:00 | Saw a tesla on youtube that didn't like to turn in a particular direction and fought the driver, as cars get more sophisticated and have an OS of their own expect the occasional PC-like fault. And for Speedys sleep comments, the settings for the lock screen when waking up are separate from the windows login settings using Netplwiz, think it's under power options somewhere. There's a trade off to be had when making things more secure, older versions of windows almost everyone ran everything as an administrator and had no passwords. It's a lot more convenient and a lot less secure. Windows 10 prefers you to have a password and makes not using it a bit more difficult - less convenient and more secure. Something I have been noticing using Linux on a couple of machines - I have to put my password in a lot more often. I have installed windows 10 on multiple PCs and so far the only issue I've come across is a corrupted user profile, fixed by creating a new one easily enough.

Dead right Laggard, if any car manufacture released a model with as many problems as Win 10 they would be out of business in days . The odd car manufacture has had the odd component problem, but theyve recalled them to be fixed by one of their agents, at their expense, not the owners . Which of course explains why some of the Techs support Windows 10 as their livelihood has been greatly enhanced by the failures . ;) Just swap Windows with Toyota in these cases . 8108 8109 8110  I look forward to the excuses . :D |
