1436186 2017-07-01 04:22:00 Maybe he's the young, fresh-face the Team wanted to represent it.
Maybe Ashby didn't want the P.R. stuff.
Maybe Kiwi's would prefer a Kiwi.

Who knows - the whole team made a hash of the presentation ceremony. Unprofessional and yobs - the shot of that young guy drinking out of the cup was repugnant and did nothing to enhance the team/country, and then throwing away bags given as gifts from a very influential sponsor.
Stupid.

Yes I thought throwing the bags away was a bit disrespectful.
They will regret that later in their lives, could have been a nice momento.

Next time I hope Luis Vuitton give them a brochure of their bags.

1436187 2017-07-01 04:23:00 I was trying to work out the difference between skipper and helmsman.

Why does Peter Burlign get all the kudos, and yet Glen Ashby was the skipper?

1436188 2017-07-01 04:54:00 Because he was the person who decided when to turn left or right or go at any specific time :) Zippity (58)
1436189 2017-07-04 00:13:00 Don't equate America's Cup Racing with the "Sport of Yachting", because the one thing the America's cup lacks is genuine Sport and Sportsmanship.
The America's Cup is about money, the prestige of Winning and the ego's of wealthy powerful men.

If one wants a sporting yacht race that depends on the skill of the crews, then the only answer is one design racing.

It is not sport when the probable outcome is skewed by who can throw the most money at it.
It is not a National team, when crews are bought professionals from other Nations.
It is not Sport when the Rules can be manipulated to favour the defender.

The America's Cup may show some spectacular sailing performances, but please don't equate it with the "Sport of Yachting".

A bit like last weekend's "Test" match between the AB and the Lions, huh?

When those sailors experience the ultimate in performance of both themselves and their boats, how else could you define it. I mean really, with Team NZ's limited budget against Oracle's almost unlimited budget, the most money clearly wasn't the winner!

1436192 2017-07-04 23:54:00 I read from a designer I think, there was worry, if NZ makes too good a boat, it could scare off potential challengers. Good some might say - NZ keeps it, but then what becomes of it? kahawai chaser (3545)
