1435931 2017-05-30 22:29:00 I am trying to install Office 2003 on a new laptop with Windows 10 OS.
I keep getting an Error 1919 message about missing FoxPro files.
I have looked at the Microsoft site for a solution, but it seems to go into lots of computerese involving manual changes to the system and I am not too sure about doing that in case I get it wrong. There seems to be plenty of websites who offer the do the fix for some USDs, but I am not sure about that either.
Does anyone have a straightforward solution?
Thanks, Richard

1435932 2017-05-30 23:01:00 I am trying to install Office 2003 on a new laptop with Windows 10 OS.

short answer is dont .

2003 is obselete, end of life & NOT officially Win10 compatable
Win10 will even remove 2003 installs after major updates

Also, new laptops will be ridden with crapware . Thats another issue to deal with first.
Ive seen 1 brand of laptop that had 5 (yes 5) separate installs of Office2016/2013 trial version, + other brands of Office suits (Kingsoft etc) all preinstalled

1435933 2017-05-31 00:08:00 You "may" be able to get it to install by right clicking on the setup.exe and run in compatibility mode. BUT its unstable on W10, and as 1101 posted no longer compatible, and usually gets removed or broken at some stage. wainuitech (129)
1435934 2017-05-31 02:57:00 Thanks for the replies. It looks like I will just have to bite the bullet and buy the latest version. Richard Morriss (5154)
1435935 2017-05-31 03:56:00 You could just use one of the free ones, they are close enough for most people, particularly if they only have to match the 2003 version of office for compatibility and functionality. Have a look at libre office or WPSoffice and give them a whirl, totally free so nothing to lose www.libreoffice.org/ https:

Or have a read of this to get some Idea www.techradar.com
Only reason I use office 365 is because my work license the company pays for allows 5 devices and I only have 1 work device, if you use office at work it might be worth looking into.

1435936 2017-05-31 22:46:00 It appears you can no longer activate 2003 anyway answers.microsoft.com Sirhc (15872)
1435937 2017-05-31 23:13:00 Still running happily on SWMBO's laptop with Win10. Driftwood (5551)
1435938 2017-06-01 05:38:00 This is interesting. I have been running MS Access 2002 (stand-alone, not as part of Office suite) for yonks under Win XP, 7, 8.1 and 10. Installation, activation and use have not been affected (as far as I am aware) by the successive generations of Windows. Even Win 10 updates have left it unscathed. Jayess64 (8703)
