578495 2007-08-09 03:28:00 Historians may well mark columnist John C. Dvorak's recent "Me and My Mac" article as a turning point for the beloved, albeit second-tier, Mac platform. It's a ludicrous concept, though, since Dvorak is simply reading and reacting to the writing on the wall. (John, of course, would relish the idea of being noted on Wikipedia as "The Man Who Started It All.")

Some will surely argue that Linux-based PCs will rise faster than Apple's Mac. They're wrong. Linux remains an attractive option for small businesses, server environments, and consumers willing to go it alone. This is not the potential Mac marketplace. In fact, it's not even the general consumer PC market.

578497 2007-08-09 05:12:00 It's one of the stupidest articles I've read lately and I didn't want to bother commenting. But since you really want feedback, there ya go.

Dvorak is an interesting read. His record on prognostications is pathetic however.

Apple aren't even anywhere near double figures. Even that fanboy article is all gushy over the possibility of...wait for it...12 percent in 4 years time.

Then the bestest bit ever "Anyone want to guess where it'll be by 2025?"

2025 :waughh: :waughh: maybe they're wetting their pants at the thought of 15%. What the shape of computing will be like in 18 freakin' years time is an interesting question in itself, but a completely f'n stupid thing to include in an article about apple market share.

That would be a pretty spot on opinion of John Dvorak.
I mainly posted the article because it was from "the other side of the fence", had it been from a Mac based magazine I wouldn't have bothered. Considering that PC Mag is US based where they generally have a different view towards Apple that that expressed by us in Australia/NZ I am inclined to agree with Apple's market share reaching 12+ % in the next 4 or more years considering that Microsoft and Vista continue to get luke warm reviews at the best of times.

As long as Apple's sales keeping increasing 30% per year on average and I don't see why they won't, the market share figures mentioned are quite reachable.

578500 2007-08-09 12:34:00 Err - ? What's Apple got to do with PC's?
It's a damn fashion ornament for the befuddled.

578501 2007-08-09 18:47:00 The article was written by a PC user. Apparently there are a lot of PC users who often find PCs to be confusing and difficult, blame Bill I say. winmacguy (3367)

When the next iPod comes along, if it isn't by Apple watch them disappear.

If it wasn't by Apple it wouldn't be an iPod, since they own the rights to the name and design etc. About the only company that has enough money left to make a device to "compete" with the iPod would be Microsoft and they have only sold just over 1.2million Zunes since they were first released at the end of last year.

578504 2007-08-10 04:03:00 You know what I meant. I still can't believe that Sony, originator of the Walkman and a major music label, left a gap in the market for Apple to rescue themselves with the iPod and iTunes. PaulD (232)
