577572 2007-08-09 23:23:00 Hmmm I have a mutt that has Pit Bull and Staffy in his blood.

He lives around children. Care to convince me that my dog is a blood thirsty killer?

Oh dear. They still exist. People who obviously never read or are unable to make logical decisions. This is the sort of thing I have been reading for over 30 years now. And 25 years ago I was still reading the same comments.
People with dangerous breeds still convinced that their dog was quite safe. Then shortly after when there is a terrible tragedy they state how amazed they were - their dog had never shown any violent tendencies.
YES your dog is a blood thirsty killer. He will attack within the next year or so - and you will be as surprised as all those people who have featured in these stories for 30 years. Why not just try to learn from what has happened previously - read some of those reports on dangerous dogs. But whatever you do "GET RID OF YOUR PITBULL/STAFFY CROSS NOW"
If you don't then the day will come when you regret it and you will trotting out the same sad story I have read too many times.

577573 2007-08-10 02:38:00 Power Meter Readers get dog bites on a regular basis but very little of that is reported. These bites are from lots of breeds and happen on a weekly basis not one off's.

Power companies are slowly changing meters to smart meters that no longer need read montly, I assume the troublesome dog owner homes will be first on the list for the new replacement meters.

I totally agree with Thomas01 Get rid of the potential killer mutt

577574 2007-08-10 03:01:00 I stabbed a dog throught the head with sativa once. Attacked me while I was jogging and tore out my calf muscle. The sativa was the closest thing. rob_on_guitar (4196)

Oh dear. They still exist. People who obviously takes the media too literally, and think they're making the logical conclusions for doing so.

Who the hell do you think you are? You don't know my dog. Don't dare to talk about my dog in the way you can only speculate. Speculations derived from your brainwashed thoughts.

And for your information, I've had little kids intruding my frontyard just so they could play with my dog. He always welcome those kids with licks and chasing games.

So don't dare telling me what the hell my dog is. And don't instruct me to get rid of my damn dog. I take that personally.

perhaps your next dog should be a dog with a better reputation.

would you buy a car with a zero star safety rating and then defend it because you haven't had an accident yet?

i'm not saying your dog WILL bite anyone; but s/he MAY. hell i was surprised to hear about my dog trying to bite a courier - he's usually pathetic, but it only takes one accident and one of those little kids may be scarred for life.

that said, it sounds like your dog is well accustomed to children which imo is the most important thing (provided there is some supervision)

perhaps a more family oriented breed next time round would be a wise idea?

somehow i think it's more a financial/profit decision rather than meter man safety:2cents:

I don't think making analogies apply to dogs here. ;)

But I see your point. Thing is though, all dogs with teeth are capable of biting children and adults. Even a Golden Retriever. The thing that got me worked up was Thomas being such an arrogant and know-it-all ******* and yelling at me to kill my own dog, without even knowing him.

577578 2007-08-10 20:38:00 If I was a posty, courier driver, meter reader I would only get bitten by the same dog once. I would make sure the dog is destroyed even if it was a poodle. If the the dog wasnt destroyed I would sue my employer for mental stress.
But the line the dog would have to cross is actualy biting or nipping.

577579 2007-08-10 20:45:00 You still have to take into account the dog's natural instincts. You cross its territory, you get bitten. Not all dogs do that - some are friendly and greet you with wagging tails. My dog for example would so friendly he'd probably start humping you. :p

But of course, an owner of a dog must isolate the dog from a power reader/courier.

577580 2007-08-10 20:54:00 Many years ago I had a little chiwawa type dog barking and biting at my heels as i was delivering Coal to a house. I dropped the bag of coal on it and it never bit me ever again.

I also had a beardy collie that was a truck dog for loading/unloading sheep. A perfect well behaved breed of dog and a great working buddy. Once it was travelling up in a pen of sheep like any normal trip and it tore the side off a sheep, all its skin off one side.

I would never have predicted that my dog would do such a thing. It was put down.

qazwsxokmijn "an owner of a dog must isolate the dog" Yes in practice but a few don't bother. And it is those few that cause the problems for posties/couriers/meter readers.

Well for a start it's nice to be called arrogant and know-it-all.
Never been called that before!
But I can assure you I am not a *******

I don't need to know your dog. It's just that I have read literally hundreds of cases where pit bull etc type dogs have suddenly done something everybody knew they would do, except the owner.
I have been saddened so often - not only by the damage to the child but by the stupidity of people who have made the same sort of comments you have just made.
An interesting point crops up here now. When your dog attacks (as it will) then you can hardly like so many others in the past, express surprise.
After all this correspondence could come to light proving that you had been warned.
What do our lawyer friends think of the situation then?
Curious.
