577255 2007-08-10 04:22:00 Yes saw it on tv this morning also.

What also annoys me is that Sanitarium went to Chinese peanut butter to remain competitive, but the price did not drop. I bet the Chinese stuff costs much less than the Aussie one or our one (if we made it here at all)

Did Sanitarium get that many complaints ! It shows that consumer power can win. I was certainly never gonna buy peanut butter again.

Sanitarium is wholly owned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, so if the people aren't happy...

577256 2007-08-10 04:24:00 What about the babyfood tins, with pictures of smiling babies? Maybe Dr Swift's (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Modest_Proposal) ideas about a way of solving the Irish economic problems have borne fruit. Graham L (2)
577257 2007-08-10 04:53:00 Boss picked up bargain peanut butter(crunchy of course)I asked to see where made,China,so had a closer look and was able to pay more and buy Australian. Cicero (40)
577258 2007-08-10 05:20:00 You can make your own peanut butter at the local Bin-in, I dont know where the peanuts come from though, but you can be assured that no additives will be added.

I had a look at the Binn Inn peanut butter machine today and there was no labelling as to where the peanuts were from. The shop was busy so I didn't bother hanging around to ask. Next time maybe.

577259 2007-08-10 05:25:00 Why stop at making peanut butter,we could make everything ourselves.

Seems to logically follow on from that premise.

577260 2007-08-10 07:24:00 To all those complaining about the peanut butter, did you taste anything different?

If no, then why the big fuss?

How will buying Aussie stuff change anything? :2cents:

577261 2007-08-10 07:54:00 Instead of worrying about pesticides, I'd be a bit more concerned about the traditional Chinese fertilizers they have used for millenia :), though I do think it makes much more ecological sense than flushing it all down the toilet as we do in the West:thumbs:When i lived on the wild west coast we had insufficient top soil for a septic tank in most parts of town, so ones "waste" was composted. The local *ahem* bush tomato growers would take the composted waste and sawdust into the bush, and, um, reported nothing but good results.

I'm not so sure about applying that practice of utilizing natural fertiliser to a plant that has it's harvest-able crop below the ground :)

577262 2007-08-10 10:18:00 Decent peanut butter and Yes it tastes far better.
NZ Organic Kiaora or Ceres.
Great on real home made bread :)

Bin Inns' peanuts come from China according to one of their managers north of Ak.

Country of origin labels needed urgently for all foodstuffs.

I had gone off the stuff over the last few years as I thought it tasted different, more rancid and bland. Peanut butter can be the breeding ground for bacteria too.

Anyone know where Colgate now make thei toothpaste, as it is not shown on the tube. It used to be made in Petone in Wellington and it used to say, made in Petone. However I belive it is now either made in India, China or Thailand, for cost savings.

same reason you should never buy a chinese vehicle: in china it seems quantity rules, then worker's rights and quality last.

i myself won't buy anything just because it's got "organic" on it, but i will try to avoid things that are possibly toxic/pathogenic/dangerous due to unapproved practice (like lead based paint on toddler toys)

atleast with aussie stuff we have a fair idea of how safe the food is as they actually have standards
