Are you sure you are checking IP and DNS are set to auto on the right connection.
If you are connecting by Ethernet check the LAN connection
If you are connecting by wireless check in the wireless connection.

Speedy - have you been into the modem config at all, is it set to obtain DNS automatically.

759093 2009-03-27 09:01:00 Speedy - have you been into the modem config at all, is it set to obtain DNS automatically.

That option is in windows (under the LAN properties / TCP/IP option). Not in the router

And I usually put my ips in manually, none of these are on obtain an ip automatically.

Because this router can be fussy. Things (like sending files in IRC for example) wont work unless you put the ip in manually (in windows), and you add the ip (the ip you entered manually in windows), to the router.

Then add the ports (for whatever program, to whatever ip address) in the router.

759094 2009-03-27 09:12:00 Are you plugging your laptop into a modem( or wireless) or is the broadband modem build into your laptop.

Try opening CMD and typing in: ping www.trademe.co.nz
or/and tracert www.trademe.co.nz and post what the results are here.

Also what brand/model broadband modem are you using?

Hi Wainuitech

The Cipher Strength for both pages, done seperately - 1 worked, the other didn't: Bot 128-bit.

Also, I did notice the sticker on the laptop says Windows Vista, but it's definitely Windows XP. None of our work laptops use Vista. Not sure why that is either :thanks

759099 2009-03-27 20:14:00 Princess: the laptop will access some sites, but not others. Does this apply at both home and work? Or just at one OR the other?
Also, what happens if you enter in your own DNS settings on the laptop? Try using openDNS server IP's: 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222

And yeah, as Safari says, make sure proxy is unticked, and try ticking "Automatically obtain settings"

Hi there,

Yes, applies at both home & work. Tried automatically obtaining settings and also have ensured proxy is unticked.
