759197 2009-03-25 04:57:00 On a 32bit operating system, that would only leave around 1.8gb of address space for the system. I guess it is useful for 64bit systems?

AFAIK 64-bit Windows Systems are still limited by 4GB of addressing memory per-application, which by default is around 1.5-2GB phsical + 2GB Virtual.

Apps like Supreme Commander already hit that limit...

759198 2009-03-25 05:15:00 On this PC - XP 32 bit here sees 3.25Gb Ram. XP 64 Bit sees 64Bit, OSX sees 6Gb. Bantu (52)
759199 2009-03-25 05:17:00 I would.

759201 2009-03-25 06:05:00 think of it as a long term investment.. nothing needs that much now but ull be sorry 3 years later and ur the only person who doesnt have one lol ;) nerd (109)

Ah, yes, but the problem with 32-bit is you cannot address more than 4GB of RAM, that is a combination of Virtual RAM, Physical RAM and Video RAM as far as I am aware.

Then, you reach 64-bit and you run into the 4GB per-app limit anyways, I'll try and find some reading material on it...

Don't they both share the same address space?

Thats only x86 applications with the limit, x64 apps dont!, CS4?

759206 2009-03-26 02:15:00 I suppose we just have to wait for all apps to be fully 64-bit native .. not many I know are, except for CS4 which doesnt (AFAIK) need 1.7GB Video RAM ;) Chilling_Silence (9)
