| 578714 | 2007-08-11 14:29:00 | Ahh the old "wire goes to earth when the lights are off" trick. I have done this one too ..... after being sure that it was earth when lights and ignition on. | Jester (13) | ||

Sounds like stupid and 'out of their depth' Kiwi DIY'ers who don't know how to identify wiring, or test that they have it right. :D Cheers Billy 8-{) :p Most car stereo installers would do a standard install in less than an hour, $50 Just for the record I helped an auto-electrician out with that little bit of information a few years ago. No doubt it would have taken him all of fiive minutes to figure it out, but still. He didn't know. I don't know about stupid and out of their depth Kiwi DIYers. Thats $50 that can be spent on beer! And I can usually install a car stereo in about 30 mins, assuming theres no major extra wiring to do. (Like new back speakers) |

Exactly I saved myself $50.00, stereo goes sweet as and everything goes in the car perfectly, only took me bout 40 min too, plus another 15min to change the earth wire. Was no hassle Billy - Thats what us Kiwis are about DIYing. And isn't that a part of what this forum is about? Is it not, don't we and others post our computer problems in the F1 forum to sometimes save ourselves the money of a tech? Phil B - The stereo only cost me $150, (Thats not expensive) I have installed them in all my other cars with no problems don't see why I would pay someone else to do it this time. Sure I had a problem, but a bit of googling I had it fixed and guess what no $50 charge. Go Kiwi DIyers I say. |

Saw the green cable, thought, yip, thats the earth, connected it and each time I turned the headlights on, the driving light fuse blew. Green for chassis? what the hell were you thinking!!! :D |
