| 578506 | 2007-08-10 04:25:00 | You know what I meant. I still can't believe that Sony, originator of the Walkman and a major music label, left a gap in the market for Apple to rescue themselves with the iPod and iTunes. Most certainly they "could" have designed another great device to match the iPod. I believe that they missed the boat due to internal lack of communication between divisions and a lack of defined product execution as well as a strange desire to stick with a weird unworkable proprietary codec - Atrac. Apple and Steve had none of these problems to hold the design and implementation of the iPod back or the vision to get the music industry on board with the iTunes music store. The other thing Apple has that Sony doesn't have is an operating system to complement the music application which helps greatly with ease of use. The problem Sony now has is that the boat has moved into the next time zone and is well out of range. |
