Food for thought or more wishful thinking?
I wouldn't know where to start in thinking outside the square with this one;
somewhere thre is a way......:confused:

578079 2007-08-09 09:45:00 When we first came to Wanganui from Auckland 4 years ago, a Unit of power was 11 cents. Now it is 21 cents & going up soon. I fail to see how the generating costs have gone up that much. Surely we have paid for the construction of the Dams & Lines by now.

Agreed and note how Max Bradford is keeping a low profile these days.

578080 2007-08-09 20:28:00 Yes it all makes you want to dry and give up.

Although fairly right wing and pro business I am begining to believe the the government (us) should buy Telecom back and all the ISPs. And set it up as a non-profit making entity charged with supply all New Zealand with good phone and world class internet services. And then charging us the minimum required to provide these.

Then we would not need the army of sales people trying to get us to switch from one providor to another with all the attendant hassles

578081 2007-08-09 20:32:00 By the way the title of this thread is line rentals.

Chris Barton wrote a very good piece in the Herald on Thursday in which he hints that if Telecom can provide local loop unbundling for $ 16.49 then how come they charge us $ 43.60 for a land line rental !

Perhaps we should get rid of the kiwi-share clause that says line rentals can only go up by the amount of inflation each year (which means that they do !) and drop free calling.

May have something to do with the phone that's attached to it?? The $16.49 you talk about is for the cable pair from the CO to your house wioth nothing elese attached..
