759187 2009-03-25 00:22:00 Seriously, what app needs that much?

Better still, what apps are there out there which can make use of that, and actually still run on Windows, bearing in mind the application limit that exists even in x64 windows?

I saw a graphics card going for $1300+, I asked the guy if they sold many, being a bit of a smart ass... apparently they have!

"People with more dollars than sense" came the reply ;)

Crazy stuff....

759188 2009-03-25 02:27:00 Crikey:waughh:, i wonder how long it will be untill that isnt enough to run a game??

Remember the old Matrox Millenium graphics cards? in think they were 16mb or 32 mb, but they were very good at the time

759189 2009-03-25 02:30:00 The idea behind this is to make better and more demanding games in the future, so maybe they can stablish the PC as another console to get in the console wars... JOYBEBA6679 (10686)
759190 2009-03-25 02:34:00 technology is going too fast for my taste and im a bit senile for my age.
my TV is analogue and my PCs are aged more than 5 years and that's the way i likes it and no one is gonna make me change that

quote from the simpsons, "my car gets 42 rods to the hogs head and thats the way i likes it"

759191 2009-03-25 02:43:00 Yeah, but how long till they are a resonable price so they become more mainstream, or will they rely on hard core gamers (like console owners) to puchase better graphics equipment so they can keep up...?? Or is that here already
I would like to compare a ATI 4870 X2 vs a Quadro FX 1700, they are similar in price, but unfortunatley Solidworks wont support non workstation graphics cards. When you compare the specs the quadro isnt even on the same planet as the 4870X2.

759192 2009-03-25 02:46:00 It is just a matter of time and that will be too small for anyone.

8Mb used to be considered over the top.

759194 2009-03-25 02:59:00 Yeah too true Bantu
I remember my 3dfx voodoo 2 add on card also was very good for gaming
I wonder why they disappeared?. It was a great idea and the 32mb was a real boost to gaming. Actually i think i still have it some where,it will be a museum piece soon

759195 2009-03-25 03:46:00 I remember when you didnt even need a 3D graphics card because your 2MB of VGA graphics memory ran the first 3D games. Good times....if it weren't for the fact that games are so much prettier now :P Nictech (14748)
759196 2009-03-25 03:54:00 On a 32bit operating system, that would only leave around 1.8gb of address space for the system. I guess it is useful for 64bit systems? utopian201 (6245)
