758790 2009-03-23 21:19:00 I wanted to back up my Outlook pst file and went through the process File/Data File Management. Opened the data file found the latest pst file. Tried to copy it to paste into my pen drive and got the following error:

Error Copying File or Folder: Cannot copy Outlook1

The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file.

I closed outlook before trying to paste into my pendrive. No other programmes were running at the time. What is going on and how do I remedy the problem ?:badpc::badpc::badpc:

758791 2009-03-23 21:30:00 Simple - this is for Outlook 07.

File - scroll down to backup / In the open windows select options - change the location of the backup to where you want (I'd suggest a folder on the PC, then copy paste to the Pen drive) Then click save backup. Done

For outlook 03 File / Import Export /Export to A file/ Personal Folder (.pst)

Select personal Folder, make sure the box is ticked include sub folders, browse to location next ( From memory)

758794 2009-03-23 22:46:00 I just use a batch file.

:Outlook needs to be closed when running this. It WILL Overwrite the old file.
copy "C:\Documents and Settings\Laptop\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst" C:\USERS\OTHER\OUTLOOK_PST\Outlook2003Laptop.pst

Make sure that you run it prior to opening Outliik and check that the PST files does exist in that location first.

Just put that in a text file and call it something.bat Double click it and it copies to other location.

758795 2009-03-23 22:57:00 Okay - minor item I forgot to mention :o you need the plug in. Dhurrrrr Brain fade

Download it from This MS Site (www.microsoft.com) - make sure Outlook is closed, run it, then you will have the option as I mentioned. Backup Option (www.imagef1.net.nz), then change settings to suit, location time etc Example (www.imagef1.net.nz)

758796 2009-03-23 23:04:00 Download this add on for Outlook;-

www.microsoft.com

It will backup your Outlook.pst file at regular intervals that you specify to any medium and keep your original in its normal location.

That is how you get the backup option on the file menu in Outlook.
