758696 2009-03-23 00:24:00 Having taken to heart pcteks fervent plea for people to back up their computers, I am currently trying to back up Picasa on two computers (my wife's desktop and my laptop), using Picasa's inbuilt back up programme and backing up to disk. I succeded on the desktop, but failed with the laptop...all it would do was create an ISO file and refused to backup to disk......any ideas as to why?
The desktop back up was perfect.:thanks

758697 2009-03-23 01:53:00 You can burn the ISO file to a disc-its probably a backup also, just in a different format

Check to see if you're doing the backup process right:

Thanks for your reply. I did use the link you suggested and everything worked fine on my wife's puter to the extent of producing a viewable disk of backed up pics. It wouldn't with mine however. Even the ISO when I double clicked on it, produced a dialogue box asking what programme would open it??

758699 2009-03-23 02:44:00 Ah yer an iso is a disk image, its got files / folders / whatever in it.

You need a program to burn it to cd. Thats why its asking what program you want to use, to open it / burn whats in it to cd / dvd.

758700 2009-03-23 02:54:00 Hi Speedy....I am confused. Why would it ask me what i want to burn it with? It didn't do that with my wife's computer...when i clicked burn on hers it did its trick...when i clicked burn on mine it just told me it was going to produce an ISO file. Iassume that the facility to burn directly to disk is built into Picassa:) Your thoughts? smurf (6545)
758701 2009-03-23 02:58:00 I have no idea, I dont use Picasa. Picasa maybe able to create ISO's, but not burn them? It maybe a separate program? Speedy Gonzales (78)
758702 2009-03-23 03:04:00 Hi Speedy...just had another play. It certainly varies in what the backup programme built into Picassa does. The ISO file was saved to an ISO folder created automatically in My Documents on my C:\ drive. I eventually oppened the ISO file by selecting Picassa itself...and it produced all the pics as per the originals.........hmmmm strange though it didn't give me the option of Picassa restoring them as it did on my wife's puter. It seems to imply that if you need to restore them you will have lost the original Picassa 3 programme and would therefore have to reinstal it and then import the fpics on the ISO file. Would this make sense? smurf (6545)
758703 2009-03-23 03:10:00 If it supports ISO, next time it comes up with a window, asking what program, select Picasa. That should fix it Speedy Gonzales (78)
