577511 2007-08-07 04:42:00 I just saw the YouTube flick on Beryl (thanks ziggy!) and I am impressed to the max .

Where can I get it?

I'll fire up another SOYO for this if it's available!

What's the system requirements?

Linux  Do you reaaaaallly wanna go there again SJ?

You also need to get your vid drivers 3D capable... easier said than done as I followed the instructions *cough* with a recent install of either Mint or similar. From memory Beryl kicked in OK on Mint but not another distro.

Was fun to play with for a while, then I was over it.

I'd say give Mint linux a go if you get the urge/time, it is fun to play with, but in the end just window dressing .

577515 2007-08-08 01:28:00 I have Sam Linux on my machine and it came with beryl working pretty much out of the box I think you just had to tick the enable 3d effects button, and sam linux installed as easily as any other linux i have used recently, as in no problems whatsoever Morgenmuffel (187)
577516 2007-08-08 08:30:00 Beryl forked back into the Compiz project and is basically discontinued.

Check out http://compiz.org/ for more information.

I had Beryl running on my notebook a few months ago (Feb/March) but it was while I was booting Vista, XP and Ubuntu so it wasn't exactly the most stable it could be. Was a bit of a hassle getting it going but was glad when it finally worked out.

577517 2007-08-08 13:23:00 If you have Ubuntu you can simply get it from Add / Remove Programs

Otherwise, wait for Ubuntu 7.10 and you'll be using CompizFusion right out of the box!

SOYO?

Even my laptops 32MB Shared SiS Video Card runs it uber-fine!

Yeah...I got another SOYO Mobo, Athlon XP 1.7 (it says) and 2g RAM..Nvidia...SBlaster and such....2-500g HDDS 17" CRT...

Have you never heard of SOYOs?

577519 2007-08-08 21:03:00 Nup, never...

Basically, it'll work on a puttload more than Vista would, lets put it that way ;)

Ive found it uses very little system resources, you should be fine :)

577520 2007-08-08 21:20:00 Except for the Nvidia bit :D

Give it a go SJ, it's purdy... just remember to whack it on it's own HD, in it's own box at least 2 metres away from any other computer equipment (to be safe switch all other electrical equipment off)... in this country they call it quarantine, in yours I think pugatory
