759613 2009-03-26 04:03:00 Hi,
My MP180 shows "Alarm, paper jam, remove jam and press OK".
The problem is, there is no paper jam at all! I f I put in a sheet of paper and push the on button the paper feeds through OK.
This happens whether it's connected to the PC or not.
In desperation I have blown out the innards with compressed air just in case there was some dirt on the sensor but it made no difference.
Has anybody got any idea what is the cause of this condition?
HELP Please!!!

759614 2009-03-26 04:49:00 By any chance are the inks refilled or "compatible cartridges".

Had a customers Epson do very similar once - put in genuine cartridges and that fixed it.

The cartridges are genuine canon cartridges. Thanks for your reply.

759616 2009-03-26 07:45:00 Just been doing a bit of research on this problem :nerd: Found several other models of Canon printers as well all with the same problem Re paper jams but nothing jammed - one thing that works for lots - and I'm still grinning - but worth a crack :D Remove all paper, paper feeds etc.

Unplug the printer - turn it upside down and shake the hell out of it for about ( some say 5-10) seconds. (serious)
Look and see if anything shakes lose, remove it if it does. Many have had nothing fall out, but afterwards the printer works.:illogical

Also check the Microswitch, its normally in the paper pathway - it could be jammed or have a small piece of paper/rubbish stuck under it.

759618 2009-03-28 06:54:00 Hello wainuitech,
Could you tell me anything about the paper jam sensor?
Is it optical or mechanical?
Where is it located in the printer?
Cheers,

759619 2009-03-28 07:28:00 Never dealt with the Pixma MP180 but somewhere long the paper feed path will be a sensor that detects any obstacles - look around the feed rollers or paper tray input some place.

What may be happening is something is covering the sensor making it think there is a paper Jam.

Is it optical or mechanical No Idea - but several others on different forums say make sure the sensor spring is not jammed - so I would guess (and that all it is) that its mechanical.
