580791 2007-08-14 06:23:00 Vista Prevents Users Playing High-Def Content
Vista's complicated, overzealous copy protection system is degrading even premium content's that's not copy protected, such as high-definition home movies, says researcher Peter Gutmann.

Maybe they want people get a digital signature on their personal vids...then they MIGHT play in v11.

580794 2007-08-14 06:52:00 Now . . wait a minute . . I saw a recent article (today, as a matter of fact) that said that Vista problems were also XP problems . . especially in terms of updates and the secret stuff M$ was dropping into them in the form of DOS and WDRMs and such . . . so I really wonder if this is not a zero-day problem in XP more so than in Vista .

Some of these patches and hotfixes are actually damaging to XP, but beneficial to Vista .

The SP1 for Vista is out or nearly so, and the fact that M$ trying to orphan XP now is no big secret .

Forcing companies and governments to switch to more expensive hardware to run Longhorn aka: Vista, is just a ploy to bolster the economy . . and if they do this by forcing XP users out of the water with dangerous and even unworkable updates, then they have accomplished their mission .

I smell a great big giant rodent in the works .

580796 2007-08-14 07:23:00 Some quotes from the article:

"Once the enemy is the user and not the attacker, standard security thinking falls apart."

The enemy is the user. How sad. Tsk tsk.

How can anyone contemplate using this pile of smouldering dog faeces?

Oh wait. They will throw heaps of gaming stuff in there and people will just accept they way MS treats them. Roll on DirectX.

New Zealand's government, which has argued that digital rights management fails to address the rights of people and government, appears to be the only government worldwide to express public concern about Vista's content protection standards, Gutmann said.

Really?
