580742 2007-08-14 02:47:00 I just watched a tv show last night (Dateline . . . Stone Philips) about spam scams and the 419 Nigerian phoney get rich quick schemes that are hitting everybody's in boxes .

Anyway . . even I know how silly and ridiculous they look and sound that I don't even look at them any more for entertainment value .

But . . . and here's the stooooopid part . . . over 3,000 people report falling prey to these scams EVERY MONTH . Makes one wonder how many peopleare too ashamed to admit they bought into the thing, right?

They actually send money to get more money and these scammers ply upon the greed and sucker value as they waltz to the bank every day .

Does anyone here know of anyone who actually fell for one of these scams?

I guess it must be true . . somebody seems to get Weatherbug and BonziBuddy and WebShots too .

I also guess there's not much hope for running out of idiots . . . huh?

580743 2007-08-14 04:24:00 A forum member (not this forum) I read about had $15,000US sent to him. He stated the cheque looked legit so he cashed it and was waiting for the block on it to be removed. The condition was that he send SOME of the money back as fee's.

It's was catch22 as the money he got turned out being fake and he would of sent his own money instead of a cut of the cheque. Which thankfully he didn't do.

If it's too good to be true then it's probably a scam :D

580744 2007-08-14 04:30:00 A friend of mine listed his computer in the trade and exchange - and was contacted by a guy from south africa who sent him a cheque for $6000 US for the PC and including shipping

The bank said it would cost $45 to check if the cheque was fake, so he just threw it away and used trademe instead
