| 580084 | 2007-08-13 06:45:00 | Question: How do you tell the difference between a New Zealand Police Officer, an Australian Police Officer and an American Police Officer? Answer: Pose the following question: "You're an off-duty police officer walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, raises the knife, and charges. You are carrying a Glock 9mm and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do?" NZ POLICE OFFICER's answer: Well, that's not enough information to answer the question! Does the man look poor or oppressed? Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack? Could we run away? What does my wife think? What about the kids? Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand? What does the law say about this situation? Am I currently certified to carry a Glock? Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children? Why am I carrying a gun off duty? Is it possible he'd be happy with killing just me? Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content to just wound me? If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? Should I call 111? Should, I consider calling out an interpreter or some culturally appropriate person to negotiate with him? If I raise my gun and he turns and runs away, do I get blamed when he falls over running away, knocks his head and kills himself? If I shoot him, and lose the court case, does he have the opportunity to sue me, cost me my job & my credibility, and I will lose my family home? If I do win the court case will I be charged internally anyway? --------------------------------------------------------------------- AUSTRALIAN OFFICER's answer: BANG! --------------------------------------------------------------------- AMERICAN OFFICER's answer: BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! click ...(sounds of reloading) BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! click. Daughter: "Nice grouping, Dad! Were those the Winchester Silver Tips?" |

| 580086 | 2007-08-13 07:05:00 | I have some good friends in the NZ Police, generally well trained and dedicated officers, but quite correct they are so restricted it is farcical. Australian Police a generally good cops, they can be bloody tough on anyone who tries to take them on, and that is a good thing. - The Queensland Police manning ratios for population are a bit over 50% higher than in NZ - no shortage of recruits, good pay and conditions and support by the general population |

| 580091 | 2007-08-13 21:45:00 | I think our police are the most uncorruptand honest in the world along with Sweden and Norway. Our police are just too honest what we need are state funded secret police who just take of things. Union rabble rousers, greenies, liberals, socialists, anti gun, overstayers, Poms who whinge on national tv and general plonkers etc could just have "accidents" and no one need ask questions. tedheath |

After seeing as many NZ police on tv lately for being dishonest, theres bound to me more in the woodwork. Thats only the start. |

There's been nothing but stories about dishonest cops and cops who broke the same rules they are supposed to uphold. |
