Looks like Vodafone are trying to go for market share, possibily by making a short term loss. I suppose as it is a very large global company they can afford to try it.

We are going to have copper wire for a very very long time yet, in till either NZ gets a another company that will install fibre all over NZ or telecom gives up the dark fibre they layer around places like south Auckland.

579860 2007-08-12 07:07:00 Thats a fairly low end plan. Orcon's offer is in my ball park. winmacguy (3367)
579861 2007-08-12 07:14:00 It says you get a $30 discount should you decide to swap for a higher data plan, up to broadband 4. That's pretty good if you DO normally make toll calls up to $20. Otherwise, it's really only a $10 discount since you're paying a compulsory $20 monthly fee for their talk 2 plan to be eligible for this offer. bonkiebonks (7249)

Lame.

I have their phone plan so I guess I must be entitled to a whole 1Gb of broadband too.
Think I'll pass on that............

579863 2007-08-12 08:41:00 Vodafone will begin offering free broadband from Monday 13 August.

The offer requires customers sign up for 12 months:

Customers swap their home phone number from whoever they're with to Vodafone;
Customers take up $20 national toll call package ($20/month for unlimited number of calls to NZ landlines with each call duration of up to 2 hours);
Customers receive Broadband1 free.

Broadband1 consists of full speed download/128kbit/s upload and 1GB of data per month (exceed that and you're limited to 64kbit/s for the rest of the month).

The good news is that the discount applies to higher-usage broadband plans as well - so 5GB/month will cost $10/month.

We'll even call Telecom for you and tell them you're swapping your phone number to Vodafone.

This isn't a cellular service - this is fixed line delivered over Telecom's DSL-based copper network.

It's not limited to the first 5,000 customers or to customers living in a particular town... anyone in NZ can apply.

Disclaimer: I work for Vodafone

579864 2007-08-12 08:48:00 Sorry - don't see any benefit in that deal, the speed is snail pace and the cap is a twentieth of what I use now (with some difficulty living within).

So Telstra Clear - you gonna lower my fees??
