579710 2007-08-11 21:43:00 Have you got it yet?

The old name was "InfoSpace" but it is now . . M$s "CardSpace" . . and it was slipped into an XP update .

It is a part of Vista, and it also runs in XP with the update .

And although XP patches have not gotten "CardSpace" in the recent past, it is now available when you update to Net3 .

What is it; what's it do?

<A very OLD post by M$, involving the future Longhorn system, before it was renamed Vista and then released> ( . microsoft-watch . com/content/operating_systems/longhorn_infocards_full_steam_ahead . html" target="_blank">www . microsoft-watch . com)

It keeps credit cards, passwords, account numbers and such very securely on a third-party site that has nothing to do with files held in your PC .

It adds security to web sites that you regularly use, storing an ID for e-commerce and checking accounts and general identification of who you are when you visit sites that are running the credentials and program . . which is limited YET . . but soon will be very much more universal .

You can choose what info card(s) you want . . even an alias for yourself when you log onto blogging sites . You are allowed to have multiple cards for whatever purposes you need or want .

InfoCards is very secure . It was being set up as long ago as Windows thought that Vista would be called Longhorn and seems to be adding new excitement to the web .

"Single-Sign-On" is the purpose for this system . . if you don't have to create a master password or harvest all your passwords into a file/folder on your own puter, then you are not likely to get hacked and the inevitable loss of your passwords and identifiers .

You will be able to log on, order and pay for things with a single click .

The new single bin will be secure because it's not in the pouter . . . . but in a 3rd party site that is totally unhack-able . Even keyloggers will not be able to gather your ID information .

You will be asked to enter a code that you get from them via your cellphone and then have to enter that code into the transaction . This is a site-supported system . . it's very new and as yet not too many people use it of even know what it is .

Those running Vista have likely seen, but ignored the icon in the Control Panel where it appears alphabetically in that list/display . Look for "Card-Space" and see if you have it already installed . . . . . likely not by this time .

This is an open, non-proprietary way of licensing your transactions on the new system, with extremely high security system that does not reside in your files of folders . . . just a reminder .

I know there's a lot of nay-sayers who will scoff at this idea, but it is the trend that will not go away, and this is quite likely an answer to Google's system, that is hinted to debut in the next few days or weeks .
