579588 2007-09-11 03:33:00 iTunes 7.4.1 here. It has been updated to sync with the iPhone and allow for iPhone caller ring tones. If you sign up with the iTunes music store you can download most of the album artwork to your existing music collection to be displayed in Cover Flow on iTunes and on your iPod - bit like the classic Duke Box in the pub. You will need a credit card to sign up to the music store.

If your currently using WMP 11 then is is most likely that your existing music from your CDs has been DRMd. (Thanks Micro****)

Huh? As well as (maybe) buying an iPod do I have to buy additional software to run it? Do I HAVE to have iTunes if all I want to do is copy music from my PC to it for my car?

How can I tell if my music has been DRM'd?

iTunes is a FREE download - the only thing you have to pay for is the iPod. The idea behind iTunes is that it synchs music - playlists, top 25 songs etc between your PC and your iPod with the least amount of fuss compared to other apps.
You can check out iLounge.com for suitable iTunes alternatives. You can also look at getting your iPod hardwired to your car if you want to, I understand most in car stereo places can do it. It just means that you can take your iPod where ever you go.

Ahhh...ok. I saw your comment about credit cards and thought that meant it had to be bought.

Is hardwired...I bought an Alpine specifically for that. The iPod connector is tucked away nicely in the glovebox.

Unrelated, but still fuming. The installer put my car freshener bottle back on the fan vent upside down. Overnight the bottle has emptied all down the centre console and over the stereo!!! Took it back this morning and told them to rip it out and clean it.

579592 2007-09-11 04:07:00 No the credit card is required to register and or purchase from the iTunes store when you want to download cover art for your existing CD collection in iTunes.- You dont need to purchase artwork for existing tracks on your PC. winmacguy (3367)

OK - thanks.

You may get PM'd a bit later! :p

579594 2007-09-11 04:16:00 I solely use iTunes in Cover Flow mode now as I have artwork for about 40% of my collection - the gaps are in my pre existing stuff as I am now buying random tracks from the iTunes store- with artwork. winmacguy (3367)
579595 2007-09-11 04:19:00 Just to pop in here about the new Nano shape, everyone who originally said it was ugly (fatpod) have since withdrawn their statement after viewing it in person.

Apparently in this case, the pictures of it say 1000 words, in all the wrong ways. I have yet to see one in person, but I think I will be pleasantly surprised when I do.

Tho I'm still digging the ipod Touch more.

579596 2007-09-11 04:25:00 I'm also like the UI on the iPod Touch. I have a feeling that we will be seeing that UI appearing on a few more devices in the near future including the cover flow mode which has made its way into Leopard. winmacguy (3367)

I have never had any iPod units before, and am a newbie to iTunes.

Is there any way to get art work on to the nano without buying it from the store?

I am thinking along the lines of all my MP3's that I already have on my PC.

I am rather dubious about using my credit card just to register as it can be a nightmare, trying to refute a charge that an on-line store may put against your card.
