580131 2007-08-13 05:12:00 To compare: How many armed forces vs How many drivers on the road at that time.

I would say that there were a lot more young males of driving age in NZ in the late 60's and early 70's than there were Kiwi soldiers fighting in Nam.

Road traffic injuries were the biggest cause of death for the 15-24 year age group.

Maori are over represented in accident statistics. You call to ban under 25s from driving, why not Maori as well?

If you banned all under 25 males from driving then Maori males would be included since they all live in NZ.

Young male road fatality rates peaked during the 1970's - with Māori rates higher than non-Māori.
Over the past two decades young Māori and non-Māori road death rates have followed a similar pattern.
Increase in the Māori rate since 1994 could reflect changes in recording of ethnicity rather than actual change. And yes, raise the limit to 18, make defensive driving courses compulsory, and limit learners and restricteds to non-modified cars up to 1600cc

Judging by roddy_boy's signature he seems to have a few issues in that area.

580136 2007-08-13 06:00:00 I was merely using it as an example of accident statistics. Why not ban all male drivers seeing as they have more accidents? roddy_boy (4115)

Baning is not the answer, raising the age and better driver education is.

580138 2007-08-13 06:38:00 Yes, at least 18 if not 20. rob_on_guitar (4196)

If you raise the age, you're effectively "baning" under 25s from driving.
