| 760019 | 2009-03-27 20:46:00 | Does it say anything else besides hardware failure?? Like an error code / a series of numbers / letters or something? Whats the brand/model ? Could be a knackered hdd. Yes it did have a error code. I had it written down but the wife threw the piece of paper out by mistake and now I can't get the message back as the screen is not working - doh !! Its an acer, (el cheapo only a grand or so) but its a grand i dont have at the moment to buy a replacement. Any advice would be most welcome, thanks |

| 760022 | 2009-03-27 22:49:00 | Remove the hdd (I think its IDE), and connect it to a desktop, (remember to jumper it, if you put it on an IDE connection, thats got something on it), then scan it with a virus scanner / scan it for errors Then put it back in the laptop |

It's unlikely to have a virus on it to be honest as it has only ever been connected to the web once or twice. it is used to keep books at work so just use excel and the accounting program, and only ever hook up to printer. do not even email from it and never load other peoples discs into the machine |
